The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League had a super 7 qualify for the finals of the St Georges Open. On Saturday Adam Jones of Castlefields got through after beating Jack Whitehead 19, Conor Chamberlain 12 and then Andy Hamman 20 in the qualifier. Adam’s team mate Mike Beer was on the wrong end of a 20 in the qualifier himself, losing out to Jason Galvin. But his other team mate Andy Duckett did get through by defeating Sandra Gilfedder 7, his Woore team mate Steve Rogers 20 and Matthew Allen 17. Tom Roden of Sir John Bayley was our other qualifier on the Saturday with some impressive wins over Dave Mann 11, Jon Palmer 8 and Dave McDermott 10. The other Saturday qualifiers were Steve Gilfedder who beat James Seville 16, Felix Abba who got past Ivan Smout 7, Champion of Champion John Bailey who defeated Steve Shaw 16 and Nathan Dawes, who beat Burway’s Wayne Rogers 17.
Onto Sunday and two former home players used green knowledge to their advantage. Josh Bradburn played there recently in the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League and used this to his advantage to beat Stuart Gittings 16, Derek Wright 18 and Matty Stewart 16. Scott Harries played there for a few years in the league and had a relatively comfortable passage against Ian Wassell 10, Andy Eccles 13 and Martin Gaut 14. Castlefields’ Steve Freer rolled back the years when beating Dan Taylor 19, Cody Everitt 10 and Danny Edkins 9, while Chris Ward from Sir John Bayley also used his experience when defeating Craig Shore 9, Adie Rowe 12 and Leighton Roberts 9. Wayne Ditchfield qualified after beating Tony Freeth 5 and Kevan Shaw defeated David Gwilliam 10 after both had a long trip down, while the other qualifiers were Nigel Hughes who beat Wayne Usher 16, and Chris Eccles who got past Chris Marshman in the qualifier 12.
Two of our players will play each other in the last 32, with Josh Bradburn playing Andy Duckett.
