Fields face another rival, Newport and Wrockites look for another big home win

Castlefields face another local rival as their fixture list doesn’t get much easier in week 2 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They travel to Hanwood looking to put behind their disappointing loss at Meole Brace just two days ago. Captain Alan Peach says “we have a tough fixture at Hanwood who have strengthened during the winter. We go there looking for some points but it’s not going to be easy. We try and get 5 points every away game and we got that last season. The weather might calm the green down a bit. We got 6 at Meole so are on target, and I’m sure both teams will give each other respect and hopefully we can achieve our target.” Hanwood got 6 at Chester Road from 6-2 down, so will want to build on that and have a quicker start this time round! Joint skipper Mark Shore comments “for the second season we open our home campaign against the best team in the league. It’s a challenge we look forward to and hope we can come away with a good result. Castlefields are packed with quality and are the team to beat. Us eggs have great respect for them but will be aiming to take as many points off them as possible. If it’s anything like previous meetings it should be a great game.” Newport will look to take advantage of the Fields having a tough game as they entertain Highley. But Highley got 6 at Burway, and will have knowledge of the Newport green, so may well cause another surprise. Wrockwardine Wood also won big on Wednesday and are at home again versus Wem USC. But Wem USC won three away games last season in the second half of the season, and after their 5 at the Bayley on Wednesday, shows that their form is continuing. Captain Scott Thomas comments “we are looking forward to tonight’s challenge against the Wrockites. They’re a quality team and the green is always a challenge in itself. We’ll go there with the same, confident approach as Wednesday night and see how we get on.”

Sir John Bayley will look to put behind their disappointing home start as they entertain Hanmer. Hanmer though got a good 3 at St Georges, an improvement on last season, and will look to improve again tonight. Burway also had a poor start with only an 8-6 win and will want to put that behind them as they entertain Meole Brace. Meole though will be buzzing after that win against Castlefields. Bylet are another team to have a poor start with just 2 at Wrockwardine, and will be another team wanting to bounce back as they go to Chester Road. Chester Road know that they need to keep winning at home to stay away from any trouble at the bottom. Ifton will want to improve on their 1 winner at Newport, but it won’t be easy up at St Georges who had a good start on Wednesday. Ifton do have a good record up the top green in recent years though, having got 6 winners there in the past.
