Week 15 Preview

Top three face trips, Shrewsbury Derby

The top three all face trips away from home again in week 15 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Leaders Sir John Bayley travel to Hanmer where they haven’t won before in the league before. Both teams come off contrasting results though, Hanmer losing at home last week and the Bayley winning at Chester Road on Wednesday. Newport will look to bounce back from two disappointing away results as they travel to Highley. Highley have been indifferent at home so far, so joint captain Ben Dixon knows it is a “big game mid way through the season and could really do with turning our confidence away from home into some solid home performances and then the results will come! There’s no better time then this week at home to Newport we are full strength and will compete from 1-12. If I’m honest right now we’ve got to be realistic and just take any home win against a strong side. The main thing is we’re enjoying it and learning and building week on week and proving we’re not a flash in the pan. As we said at the start of the season we’re here to enjoy it and upset the big boys where we can and have an impact in the league.” St Georges come off a fine away win at Hanmer and will hope to do it again at Ifton this week. But Ifton come off a great home win over Newport last week.

Fourth meets fifth in a Shrewsbury Derby. Castlefields host Hanwood, and will look to make it a league double after winning at Hanwood in April. Castlefields captain Alan Peach  knows it is “a very tricky game against Hanwood at home tomorrow. A number of their players know our green very well and have played there recently in the wem league. Our green is in very good condition with a little run to it hopefully. We will give Hanwood the respect they deserve and try to gain some much needed points on the leaders.” Hanwood come into the game still trying to reel in the top four. Joint skipper Mark Shore knows it is a “really tough game at the champions. We will look to get as many as possible. Our last few games away we have played well but results just not fell our way.” There is a battle for sixth place as three teams are locked on 98 points. Wrockwardine Wood finished there last season and will hope to do so again, but face a visit to an improving Wem USC side buoyed by reaching a County Cup Semi Final and beating the Bayley comfortably last week. The Wrockites have won there recently though. Meole Brace have a home tie against Burway as they look to keep their good form up, but Burway come into it on their best form of the season after getting 7 winners at Highley last week. Bylet still have a game in hand on those above and will also look to make the most of extra home games in the second half of the season starting with the visit of bottom side Chester Road. Bylet haven’t lost since last May at home, and will want to keep that up as long as they can. The visitors come off a poor home result against the Bayley on Wednesday, and know they are staring bottom spot in the face if their results don’t improve.
