The Seaton Sports 2019 Merit takes place at Hadley USC at 5.30 p.m. today with 16 quality players looking to win the John Coxill Trophy. Record winner Pete Farmer looks for his seventh crown and first since 2009, and plays Mike Wainwright first game who has come back into the league after a season out last year. The only other former winner in the field is Mike Beer, who is involved in one of the ties of the round against Rich Lawson. Kiah Roberts and Leighton Roberts is another big clash between two talented youngsters who have won big competitions before. Wayne Rogers, like Kiah, has won the County Merit and aims to add this to his collection, and has young gun Jack Hewitt who has been on the fringes of the County side. The bottom half is completed by Liam Stevens and Darrell Handley, Darrell having won the Moor Lane and Reg Miller Opens so far this season, while Liam is back full time now at Wrockwardine Wood after a few years out. His captain Rob Jones is first on against former County Handicap winner Adie Rowe, while team mate Jamie King has shown good form in winning the Mid Shropshire Merit, and plays Jon Lyttle of Meole Brace first game. The other game of the 1st round is between June Player of the Month winner Lewis Scott and Bylet’s Simon Rhodes.
Please come down and see some quality bowling from the league’s finest players. There will be rolls on sale in the club, as well as the usual refreshments. The referee is Mike Caddick.
