Fields face Dragons test, Leaders at home, Highley look for home comfort
Castlefields face another tough test in week 2o of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they travel to St Georges. They are fourteen points behind Sir John Bayley, and with them having a home game, they are up against to keep that lead down. St Georges captain Tony Rhodes knows it is a “very difficult game against a team who have become more comfortable on our green. Positively going into the game off the back of a good season so far at home.” The Dragons may have one eye on the KGJ Insurance County Cup Final, along with Meole Brace, who are the Bayley’s opponents. Newport in 3rd face a trip to a Burway side who have improved at home, while Newport have struggled badly away from home recently. Hanwood will look to gain on the top 5 with a home game against Hanmer. However the visitors have done well away from home so far this season.
Bottom side Chester Road host Wrockwardine Wood knowing that they need to back up last week’s win at home. The away side are coming into the game in good form though, and are looking to keep their top six place. Second bottom Ifton travel to an unfamiliar green in Highley. Highley joint captain Stuart Gittings says “we are looking forward to Ifton and hopefully getting back on winning track. We won there so would be looking to do the double while not taking the game for granted. A lot of our team are still trying to come to terms with the Highley green as it is never the same pace wise. Ifton are a good side as are all the teams in this league. We are really enjoying our first season and are aiming to finish as high as we can.” Wem USC and Bylet are two teams around them, and a good end to the season for either could mean a top half finish, or alternatively, a bad end could mean they find themselves in trouble.
