Bayley extend lead, Newport back in it, Hanwood hammer Hanmer
Sir John Bayley have extended their lead at the top of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League to 20 points after beating Meole Brace 10-4 in week 20. Spencer Clarke was their best winner 4, with Meole’s being Mark Thomas 12. Castlefields only got 4 winners at St Georges, but after missing several key players, it ended up as a good result. Mike Wainwright led the way for the home side with his 6 win, while Adam Jones did the same for the Champions 5. Newport are just a point behind Castlefields now after winning at Burway 12-4. Best winner for them was Josh Bradburn 5, while Wayne Rogers was best for the hosts 4. Hanwood still remain in 5th despite an 11-3 win over Hanmer. Joint skipper Mark Shore says it was a “good game against Hanmer Friday. Considering the rain we had the green drained well to enable the match to go ahead. Solid performance with some quality games. Jordan Riley played excellent (to be best winner 9) as did Dave Ellison for Hanmer. Pleased with how our lads performed. Special mention though to a club stalwart who came in at the last minute. Phil Talbot played really well to record the second best card of the night.” Best winner for them was Darren Wellings 6.
At the bottom, and with bottom side Chester Road’s game postponed because of the weather, Ifton moved 11 points clear with a good 5 points at Highley. Captain Dickie Jones is “happy with 5 winners. Giles Evans, who hadn’t played for 3 years, lost 20 which was a good effort.”Paul Busby and Reece Farr were best winners for Highley 6 while Dave Bond and Craig Griffiths were for Ifton 12. Wem USC beat Bylet 10-4 to move closer to a top half finish. Their best winner was George Williams 7 with Scott Harries the same for the visitors by the same score.
Sir John Bayley are 20 ahead of Castlefields at the top, while Chester Road are 11 behind Ifton, but with a game in hand, at the bottom. Lewis Scott leads four other players on 17 wins, while Scott Simpson has now made it 10 consecutive wins in trying to chase down Dave East’s 14 tally.
