Bayley on verge, Chester Road need miracle, Big battle for 7th
Sir John Bayley are on the verge of a second title as they just need three points at Hanwood in week 26 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Hanwood though are fighting for 3rd, and joint captain Mark Shore says “we will look to end the season on a high against the champions elect. We will be looking to get as many as possible to try and finish in the top 4. It won’t be an easy game against a team that has proven to be worthy of top spot. However we intend to make them work for the points they need to secure their second title.” Castlefields know they need a miracle to be able to keep their title hopes alive, and host Wrockwardine Wood who are guaranteed 6th but will want to keep us the intensity ahead of their date in the Super Cup Finals.
Chester Road need a miracle at the bottom being 14 points behind, and travel to Highley who will have their eyes on 7th place and a top half finish. Only four points separate Burway in 7th and Bylet in 11th, with £175 worth of prize money between the two positions. Burway are in prime position now, but travel to Ifton, who know they are all but safe now but could still catch Hanmer in 12th. Wem USC are in 8th, and host St Georges, who themselves are chasing 3rd placed Newport, who are just 2 ahead and face a trip to the Bylet, who are 10th. Both games could go either way with St Georges having a good record at Wem USC recently, and Newport wanting to make sure they finish a disappointing season on a high. Meole Brace, in 9th, would need an away win at Hanmer to be able to get a top half finish, but did do that last season. However Hanmer are much improved than last season, and know a 11-3 win over them will haul them above their visitors.
