On this day 16 years ago Chester Road retained the Premier League title after matching St Georges’ 11-3 win over Ifton with their victory over Wem USC. There was more drama at the bottom as Archibald Worthington got 4 winners at Sir John Bayley, meaning they finished level on points with Newport at the bottom after they had won by just 2 chalks over Meole Brace with just 4 winners. This meant the first ever play off to decide who finishes bottom and faces the dreaded relegation play off took place later in the month. Wrockwardine Wood beat Donnington Wood 10-4 to finish in the top 6, while Ford won their game by 1 at Childs Ercall with 5 winners. 3rd placed Castlefields defeated Craven Arms 9-5 at their place, which goes down as the home side’s  last official game in the league.
