Bayley face tough Hanwood test, St Georges face tough away tie, Hanmer look to bounce back

Champions and league leaders Sir John Bayley face a tough test at home to Hanwood in gameweek 4 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Hanwood have had a good start to the season to and find themselves in 3rd place ahead of this tough trip. Joint captain Mark Shore knows “another tough away day for the Hanwood lads awaits. On the back of a great result at Ifton we know the Bayley will want to push on from there and get a convincing home win. We will look to snatch as many points as possibly. We have a full squad to choose from and we would be happy with anything over 3. On a personal note it’s great to go back to Wellington and lock horns with my old friends, hopefully it will be a happy return!”  The game finished 11-3 to the Bayley last season and the boys from Wellington would love a similar return to try and stay top. Meole Brace are in 2nd and face the other team from Wellington in the Bowring. Bowring have had an alright start to the season but got a decent 5 at Chester Road in their only away game and would look for a similar return from Shrewsbury. Meole earned a great 12-2 win in their last home game and will look for another good home win to keep them up there. Castlefields will look to build on their fine win at Hanmer with a good home win over Burway. Burway haven’t got the best record there but did get 4 there last season and would look for something similar again, but Castlefields will hope their home form is much better this season.

Bottom side St Georges face another tough trip to Chester Road, but did win there last season 10-4. Chester Road have enjoyed a poor start to the season with captain Paul Fowles saying “we are a little bit off last season’s results but have a chance to improve as they beat us last season. So we will be hoping for a big turn around this year but they are a good side like us and when the season settles down will both be a lot higher in the table so looking forward to a good game.” St Georges have got two 3s away from home but will want more than that away from home to start moving up the table. Newport are only above them on aggregate and face a trip to Wrockwardine Wood. With a stronger team now than their first two opening away games they will be more confident of a result, but Wrockwardine Wood earned a convincing first home win over Hanmer and will look for another. Hanmer suffered a surprising home defeat last week but will be happy to face a green they are familiar with in Wem USC. Wem earned a good 10-4 home win over Meole Brace last week and skipper Graham Dulson is looking to “go all season without losing at home, that’s our aim who ever we are playing. This year we have more competition for places in the team, so players are practising the green more. We won’t be taking any team for granted.” Ifton will be another team that will look to bounce back after their shock home defeat, but travel to Bylet where they only got 3 last season. Ifton know they need to improve their away form and match their 2015 efforts if they are to achieve their aim of top 4. Bylet will look for another big home win like their 12-2 against Burway to keep their good start going.
