Top Three face tough trips, Ifton need big win, Bowring aim to build

The top three in Gameweek 15 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League face tough away trips. League leaders Castlefields go to Wem USC but are helped by the fact that 5 of their players have been practising the green for the County match on Sunday. Wem are close to the bottom so need a good result to stay clear and did beat the Fields last year. Castlefields will look to extend their lead on the team below them Sir John Bayley as they face a trip into the unknown to take on Hanmer. The weather will aid the Bayley cause but only one player has seen the green before. Hanmer captain Dave Ellison says “we host the Champions and are looking for a home win to keep us away from the bottom of the league. Only one or two of the Bayley lads would have seen Hanmer before so we need to make that advantage count. We got 2 away at the Bayley and could have maybe had pinched a couple more but I’m pleased with how we are now competing in away games.” Hanmer are just 5 clear of Ifton at the bottom so know they will need to win to keep off it. Newport are the form team in the league and now in 3rd place, but face a tough trip to Hanwood, who have the best home record in the league. Hanwood will be relieved to be back at home after scoring 9 in their last three consecutive away games, and average over 11-3 at home so far. But Newport have won their last 6, including trips to Wem USC and Hanmer, so know they are capable of a surprise.

Ifton are bottom of the table and know they have to get a good win over Chester Road at home to keep with the pack above. But Chester Road will be on a high after Wednesday’s result, and know they have an excellent record at Ifton over the last few years. Meole Brace are another team that will want to bounce back after their loss at the Bylet, and take advantage of the three above having away games. Bylet will want to build on that fine win and keep above the teams below who are all at home. St Georges will want to build on their win to over Burway as they make the trip to Ludlow, but Burway have been exceptional at home this season and will think they can match the score that St Georges got over them. Bowring got a super 6 at Wrockwardine Wood so will want to win by more at home than the Wrockites did. But the Wrockites have three former Bowring players in their ranks and won there 10-4 in 2014, so know they are more than capable of doing so.
