Castlefields edge further ahead, Bylet and Hanmer move ahead, Burway earn super six

Castlefields edged further ahead at the top of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they beat Newport 11-3 at home while Sir John Bayley only managed a 10-4 home win over Wrockwardine Wood. Vice-captain Keith Walton said they were “very pleased with the win, especially after dropping only one game after the first four against a team who are showing signs of getting some of their old form back.” Mike Beer continued his remarkable run after only losing the opening game of the season, although he has missed three games, with the best win of the night 7. Phil Emery and Russ Pegram were the best for Newport both winning 15. The Bayley continued their pursuit of the Fields but are now 8 points behind them, despite Gordon Hawkins’ best card of 8. Dale Downes won 10 for Wrockwardine Wood to be the best of their 4 winners in a good result for them.

Bylet and Hanmer both got good home wins to move a little away from danger at the bottom of the table. Bylet beat St Georges 9-5 in a reversal of last year’s home defeat against them last season, with Rich Morris and Chris Chamberlain the best of the 7 winners winning 6. St Georges’ best card was Carl Hazlehurst 9 as they maintained their 5th place. Hanmer beat Bowring 10-4 which has seem them move 10 points clear now of bottom spot. Skipper Dave Ellison led the way winning 4 while opposition captain Jamie King was best for them winning 11. Wem failed to move off bottom place as they only beat Burway 8-6 in a great result for the Ludlow side. They couldn’t quite win the aggregate after Mike Dulson won 3 and Chris Brettell 2 but Kiah Roberts’ 10 card helped them to a good away result which keeps them on the fringes of the top half. Ifton are three points ahead of Wem after getting 4 at Meole Brace, a good result in the end after gaining 3 out of the back 4 led by Nicky Jones’ 9 card. Will Tarrell was best for Meole who are three behind Newport in 3rd. Chester Road are just 12 ahead of Wem after only beating Hanwood 9-5 at home in a result which keeps Hanwood right in the mix for a top 5 spot. Wayne Phillips and Ash Wellings both were best for the visitors winning 13 while for the home side Andy Moss was tops 7.

Castlefields are now 8 clear of the Bayley while Wem USC are 3 behind Ifton at the bottom of the table. Callum Wraight still leads the Averages.
