Castlefields face Dragons test, 3rd & 4th battle it out, Bottom five all away

Castlefields face a tough test in Gameweek 22 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they travel to rivals St Georges. There is no love lost between the teams, and it promises to be a tasty atmosphere. Last year it finished 8-6 to the home side and the Fields would love a repeat of that. Vice-captain Keith Walton comments “we couldn’t ask for a tougher game Friday night, going to the nearly crowned County Cup Winners is a big game for the Fields. I’m sure the Dragons will be well and truly up for the game and so will we. Plenty of banter on the side of the green just as it should be.” Sir John Bayley will look to capitalise as they host Chester Road, but the visitors are the only side to win on the Bayley in the last two seasons so it may not be as simple as it looks. Chester Road also do still need points to avoid being dragged into the battle to avoid bottom spot. Newport and Meole Brace clash in a game that could go a long way to deciding fourth place. Newport captain Mick Jones says “it is an interesting game for us. They’re fourth so we’re vying for third place. There’s a monetary difference there.” Meole are starting to come back into form and have enjoyed a couple of good seasons on Newport so know they can get a good result in order to try and catch their opponents.

The bottom four, as well as Chester Road above, are all away this week and know every point could be vital in order to avoid bottom spot. Wem USC will not have it easy though going to Hanwood but know that the Bayley went close to winning there on Wednesday so maybe can capitalise. But the home side will want to ensure it won’t be that close again and know with 3 of their last 5 at home that a top 5 finish is within reach. Hanmer make their longest trip of the season to Burway, knowing that the home side have a great record at home this year, apart from their sole defeat there. Burway know a strong finish could get a top half finish but Hanmer have improved away since their very poor start to their visits early in the season. Bylet will be hoping to pull off their shock win over Wrockwardine Wood just like they did last season which would go a long way to ensuring survival. But Wrockwardine will be fired up to avenge that defeat last season and want to build on their home win against St Georges this week and try and get their own top half finish. Ifton travel to Bowring having had some good results on there recently, but will have to try and ensure they put their county cup heartbreak to one side and use it to kick on in the league. Bowring though have been in excellent form recently and are looking good for a top 6 finish if they can keep it up.
