Fields face test, bottom three all away, 4th & 5th try and hold on

Leaders Castlefields face a tough test at Wrockwardine Wood in Gameweek 24 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they look to close in on the title. They are 13 clear but face a trip to one of their bogey greens, they’ve only scored more than 3 once in the last 4 seasons. Wrockwardine Wood also can still have a top half finish with 3 good results but captain Rob Jones knows it is a “tough game as Castlefields will know they are nearly there. From our perspective we will be looking to continue our strong home form, and push on for a top 6 finish.” Wrockwardine do welcome some players back in the team and Castlefields should to, and will hope to keep a healthy lead at the top of the table like they have done the last few weeks. Their nearest challengers Sir John Bayley should get a good home win over the Bylet but the Bylet are a much improved team this season and are capable of getting a few on a green they will know. Bylet also need the points still at the bottom of the table, they are 7 clear of Wem USC and will think they can at least keep that distance with Wem travelling to Newport. Wem haven’t travelled well this season and don’t do great at Newport, but did get 3 there last season and three seasons ago, so will be hopeful they can at least get that scoreline. Newport will want to try and cement 3rd, being 7 points clear at moment and wanting to make sure there are no slip-ups. Captain Mick Jones says “we’re hoping for a decent win to consolidate third place, but will also know that Wem will be scrapping for every point in their fight for survival.”

Ifton are another team at the bottom that are away and won’t have it easy at Hanwood. Hanwood have been superb at home again this season and know they have to keep this up if they are to get 4th place, but Ifton did get 4 there last season and have picked up form recently. Hanmer are another of the bottom five who are away and will face a trip into the unknown going to St Georges. But Hanmer should now be safe after their 13-1 win last week so can relax and enjoy the new green for most of them. St Georges though can still claim 4th and know they need to get a big win in order to achieve this. Chester Road are the only team in the bottom five that are at home and will want a win over Meole Brace to make sure they aren’t dragged into trouble. Captain Paul Fowles says “we are happy with our form, 2 good away scores have made us pretty much safe. Hope to finish a disappointing season off with a bang but they play our green well so it will be a hard game.” Meole though are in 5th and are just 3 off 4th so know an away win will put themselves in a good place to improve on last year’s 6th place finish. Bowring are the team sitting 4th and will be desperate for their first top 6 finish in the league, but face a tough trip to Burway. Skipper Jamie King comments we are “looking to pick up points tomorrow to keep our chances of finishing 4/5th alive! We got a good 6 there last year but we know the quality that they have so it is going to be difficult. They played really well at the Bowring under tricky weather conditions so we will be looking to put that right.” Burway will want their own top half finish and can do that with a good home win here and get their highest finish ever in the league.
