Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy Final Preview

The final of the Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy takes place tonight at Old Shrewsbury with two rivals in Hanwood and Meole Brace battling it out. Both teams know each other inside out with family rivalries and ex team mates aplenty on both sides. The stand out clash is between the two brothers Glyn and Darren at number 9 which could have a huge bearing on the direction of the game. The game to start the final promises to be one of quality with Colin Beaman taking on Wayne Phillips. Greg Smith could produce a vital card at number 5 but plays an experienced campaigner in Andy Wigginton, the player instrumental in last year’s final. Jon Mansell and Scott Moseley are a clash of the young guns at number 6, while joint captain Mark Shore will hope to bring it home like he did in the 2015 Playoff final, but faces Doug Edwards who has a great season.

Captain’s views:

Mark Shore (Hanwood joint captain):

“Great to be in the final of the Mayhew in our second season in the premier league. We have become accustomed to big games at the end of the season with all the playoff games we have played in the last few years so I’m hoping we pull on that experience tonight. We know Meole very well and know they will want to retain this trophy but we will be doing our utmost to take the cup back to Hanwood. I think looking at the draw this game could well go down to the wire and be an exciting evening for all involved.”

Pete Bound (Meole Brace captain):

“Will be a tight game all round. Both sides will be looking to end the season with silverware. Should be a good game for neutrals to watch and I expect to see some quality bowling.”

So come down to Old Shrewsbury for 6.30 p.m. to watch some quality bowls. There will be a free 12 page programme available as well as a raffle, with at least 50% of the money going to charity. The referee will be Mike Potter.
