With the recent Winter weather St Georges organiser Graham Turner has released the following statement:
“For all those players booked in for the Saturday sessions of the St. George’s Open, the organisers fully intend to run both sessions and hope to have the green cleared of any snow before the scheduled practice times.
Just to advise that due to the weather conditions the opening session of the St. Georges Open tomorrow morning has been delayed until after completion of the afternoon session at approx. 5.30 p.m.
Please bear in mind we are experiencing the most severe weather conditions in a decade, your patience on the day would be appreciated.
If any players are unable to attend they should contact Graham Turner on 07940 434528.”
Some of our players take part in the competition over this weekend if they can make it. There is Sir John Bayley’s Scott Simpson and Chris Worthington, and Jamie and Nick Wyer from last year’s playoff finalists Hadley USC. The team who beat Hadley, Wem USC, have Derek Wright there for them, as well as Castlefields’ winning captain last season Andy Duckett. On Sunday and three of our most consistent performers are in action with former multiple Shropshire Merit Winners Callum Wraight from Castlefields and Pete Farmer of Newport as well as Bowring’s Rich Lawson hoping to use green knowledge in their quest to qualify.
Qualifying sessions take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday and 2 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Saturday.
The qualifying sessions at West Brom tomorrow have been postponed. Further details about Sunday will be released tomorrow.
