The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League earned more qualifiers at last weekend’s West Brom and St Georges Opens. Sam Millward, Newport captain this season, qualified for both competitions on a Super Sunday for him. At St Georges he produced three excellent displays to defeat Elliott McGuinness, Mark Burdett and Lee Heaton 17 in the qualifier to get through. Over at West Brom he defeated Connor Chamberlain, Jamie Wyer and Callum Mailer 17 in the qualifier. Sir John Bayley’s Paul Evans also followed up qualifying at St Georges by doing it again at West Brom, beating Dave Watters 12 in his final match. His new team mate Elliott McGuinness also got through, beating Steve Dicken 10 in his qualifier, while his current team mate, Ant Bracken, got through at St Georges, beating Gareth Herbert 16. Chester Road’s Martin Lloyd defeated John Price from the Potteries and then Gavin Dunkley of Warwick and Worcester 12 in his qualifier. We had two qualifiers on the Saturday morning with Dan Taylor from Wrockwardine Wood, recently a father, coming through with impressive wins over Burway’s former League Averages winner Wayne Rogers, Ifton youngster Sam Williams and then edging Paul Stretton 20 in the qualifier. Ifton’s Leighton Roberts, a former Isle of Man winner, navigated his way through by defeating Chris Kearns and former league player Gavin Taylor 7.
