Callum reaches Semi Finals of West Brom

Callum Wraight of Castlefields reached the Semi Finals of the West Brom Open but was unlucky to be beaten by Matty Stewart, who went on to lose against Gary Owen 14 in the final. Callum had been 5-0 down before hitting back to lead 12-9 and 17-13 before Matty got lucky with a fire and took advantage to lead 20-17 in the corners. Callum got two though and lead a great bowl down the clubhouse edge but didn’t make two and Matty struck his bowl off to get game. Callum had given a masterclass on his trademark length to lead former winner Simon Coupe 14-0 and kept the advantage to win 8. He beat Dan Petcher 15 and Matt Price 12 in his first few games. Sam Millward of Newport kept up his good start to the season by reaching the Quarter Finals. He beat Andrew Gallagher 12 and then Paul Stretton 16, while fellow young gun Reece Farr of Bowring also reached the same stage. He defeated Elliot McGuinness, who makes his Sir John Bayley debut this week and defeated Bill Kinchin 18 first game, 13 and Lewis Scott of St Georges 17. New Bowring signing Martin Gaut got past Danny Sillitoe 17 first game, while Chris Worthington also got through his first round, beating Matt Higgins 19.
