Bylet & Bayley win big, Burway back up home result
Bylet and Sir John Bayley picked up big home wins of Gameweek 14 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Bylet defeated Meole Brace 12-2 to continue their good form, delighting captain Scott Harries. “It was an absolutely fantastic performance from my lads on a green that was screaming and the fastest it’s been all season. We made the majority of all the close games count which turned out to be massive for us, at 7-1 up it could easily of been 5-3/4-4 but we dug in and pulled in a brilliant result. It could’ve been a full house with only losing a 19 and 20 but that would’ve been real greedy when you analyse the whole game. The Meole lads settled superbly on our razor sharp green and were unlucky to only get the 2 winners because they played better than the scoreline suggested. Overall though, I couldn’t be happier with the result and my lads, that’s 33 points in our last 3 home games now, long may the sunshine continue on our green!” Jamie Taylor was best winner 2, while Julian Cooke was best of the 2 winners for the Shrewsbury side. Sir John Bayley also earned an impressive 12-2 win over St Georges. Joint skipper Scott Simpson commented “it was a good all round performance and even players who were struggling battled to get close. To drop only 5 shots is massive and once again claws us more points back from runaway leaders Newport.” Spencer Clarke and Kane Beaman were best winners 6 with Andy Morgan best for the Dragons 17.
Burway backed up their great home win over Newport with an equally great result at their place, getting 5 winners. Joint captain Russ Davies says “after Wednesday’s result we went up with an open approach. Expecting a quick green, which it was but not over the top, all 12 Burway lads put on a decent performance in my eyes, Adam Dovey being the star man (best winner 11). Lenny Lewis played well again for 3 in a row, Mark Rogers won for twice in a week, Wayne Rogers the Burway stalwart beating the handsome Paul Reeves in a close game and Ben James beating Mark Selley from 11-4 down. We had two 16s, 17 and an 18 but the Newport lads quality got them through to 21. It was all about having the jack in hand as the weight was difficult to be fair. If you offered me last Tuesday before the games an 11-3 and 9-5 against Newport, we would of snapped your hand off. It has been a good week for us with some much needed points. We roll on to Ifton Friday now. Newport’s best winner was Russ Pegram 11. Castlefields picked up their form slightly with an 11-3 win over Wem USC. Keith Wall was their best winner 6 while Chris Brettell continued his blistering form winning 6. Chester Road will be happy with their 4 on Hanwood, their best result on there since Hanwood came back into the league. Ian McDonald was their best winner 12, with County Handicap winner Danny Wornell the home side’s best 3. Bowring got 4 at Ifton, despite missing some key players. Jamie King continued his good form on the green winning 8, while Kevin Nicholas was best for the home side 7. Hanmer started their run of home games with a 10-4 win over Wrockwardine Wood. Captain Dave Ellison led the way 8 with Dan Taylor starring for the away side 12, who will be happy considering their lack of knowledge of the green.
Newport now lead by 6 to Sir John Bayley, with Hanwood a further 5 behind. Hanmer are 8 behind Chester Road at the bottom. Pete Farmer is still unbeaten on 14 wins, one ahead of team mate Russ Pegram.
