Gameweek 15 Preview

Haygate Road Derby, Shrewsbury Derby, North Shropshire Derby

Gameweek 15 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League sees the reverse of the 1st week of fixtures of the season and plenty of derbies. Bowring and Sir John Bayley meet in the Haygate Road derby after having a high quality clash back at Bowring in the 1st game. Bayley skipper Scott Simpson says “the battle of Haygate Road. As always this will be a lively game. We need to keep building on how well we are playing as a team and keep the momentum going. We are playing with a little freedom at the minute and battling for winners as we know any pressure on the leaders is good pressure. It will be a tough game tomorrow as always and we expect the green to run well again. We have to be on our metal to provide a good win which I am positive we will do.” The Bayley got a great 12-2 win last week at home, while the Bowring got a solid 4 at Ifton after two 12-2 home wins themselves. Bowring captain Rich Lawson knows it “will be a very tough game. SJB are an extremely good side, it should be a lively encounter and I’m sure they’ll be plenty of banter. If we come away with 4 winners then I’ll be happy with that.” Castlefields will look to build on their good home win on Friday as they entertain Hanwood. They defeated Wem 111-3 but will be hard pressed to repeat that against a Hanwood side in good form. Hanwood spokesman Ash Wellings knows it is a “another tough away game against one of the best teams in the league. Always have a good game against Castlefields so looking forward to the challenge. We’ll be hoping to match the five winners they got at our place. Anything better would be a bonus.” League leaders Newport entertain Meole Brace as they look to bounce back from a couple of disappointing results recently. Meole have been up and down this season, but do have two away wins under their belt this season and will head into the game with no pressure on them.

There is a massive North Shropshire Derby as both teams are the bottom two in the league. Hanmer host Chester Road looking to close the 8 point gap between the two teams. Hanmer skipper Dave Ellison realises it is “a big match tomorrow against our local rivals. We sit bottom but knowing a big result will put us back in touch. The green is now quicker which we are all getting used to now and I would settle for ten again like our last 2 home games but also knowing the Chester Road boys have a good knowledge of our green as well.” Opposition captain Paul Fowles also knows it is a “big game for both teams. We did well last week on our bogey green but have to keep it going on what will be a hard green to play on. We need to get as many as we can to keep in touch with the other teams around us.” Ifton are just above those two teams and will look to take advantage as they host Burway. They have picked up recently but are still only just above the bottom two. Burway had a couple of excellent results last week and will want to keep that up as they make the long trip north. Wem USC are also down there and host St Georges who have not matched their earlier away results in the season after only getting 2 in their last two away games, and will want to improve on that. Wem beat Castlefields in their last home game after losing to Newport the week before so will hope to continue the home wins.¬†Bylet have been in excellent form and will look to continue that against Wrockwardine Wood. The weather is still being kind to them but the Wrockites got a good 4 on a flying Hanmer last week so it will hold no fears for them as they look to return to their good form of earlier in the season.
