Second round best at BCGBA Senior Individual Merit Finals

Four of our 9 players got through to the 2nd round of the BCGBA Senior Individual Merit Finals. Spencer Clarke from Sir John Bayley was our closest player to get through to the 3rd round, but lost out 16 to last year’s winner Darren Plenderleith. Tony Rhodes from St Georges beat Bayley’s Chris Ward 11 but then lost 10 to Ed Furniss, while Chris’ team mate Elliot McGuinness defeated Steve Pratt 12 and lost out to John Bailey 15. Castlefields’ Steve Freer was the other player to reach the 2nd round before losing out to Ben Stapleton 13 after beating Mark Blackmore 14. Our other qualifiers lost out in round one, Hanwood pair Ash Wellings 19 and Wayne Phillips 18 to Matthew Worden and Neil Bithell respectively. St Georges’ Nick Wyer was beaten by James Seville 14 and Callum Wraight of Castlefields lost to the winner Chris Mordue 15, who beat Wayne Ditchfield 14 in the final.
