Battlefield repeated their success in 1994 when they beat Archibald Worthington by 17 chalks today to lift the SHADES sponsored 8 a side pairs competition held today at Severnside and take the £200 first prize. In the initial Group stages, Archibald Worthington progressed from Group 1, winning both their games against Donnington Wood and Bylet respectively. In Group 2, Battlefield also won both their game against Childs Ercall and Wrockwardine Wood, whilst on the same green Group 3 was turned on its head, with Wem USC losing their first game against Craven Arms only to progress with the best aggregate following their 21 shot win against Meole Brace and then watch as Meole Brace defeated
Craven Arms, but not by enough to win the group. In Group 4, the group of death, Castlefields started with two comfortable wins against Chester Road and Sir John Bayley, but following St Georges 10 shot defeat by Chester Road, they needed to beat Castlefields by 20 to win the Group and with St Georges leading by 11 shots after 2 games, Keith Walton and Rich Goddard won 21-10 to ensure their safe passage to the semi finals.
In the semi finals Battlefield never looked back against Wem USC after Neil Clarke and Paul Humphries won 21-4 and maintained their 17 shot aggregate to win decisively. In the other semi final, Archibold Worthington shocked Castlefields with a power packed display and after two comfortable wins the game was conceded.
