Horsehay shocked Woore tonight by 8 chalks to retain their place in the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League in 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woore had two early leads, Andy Moss going 10-4 up on John Roberts and Dan Hand 8-4 ahead of Dave Clayton. But Gareth Jones was impressive against Gary Beff to go 20-5 up for Horsehay, while Olly Harris was 18-14 up on Paul Smith. However Andy came off winning 12, and Dan ran out in 2s in the corners from 12-10 up. Gary did get a few back on Gareth before Gareth drew two bowls a foot away to win 11, and Paul edged out Olly 20 to mean Woore led by 11 after four games off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However the momentum completely swung Horsehay’s way in the middle four. Phil Wain from 12-10 down won 13 against Steve Rogers and Gavin Bridge from only 12-11 up beat Ben Hinton 12 to put them ahead. Paul Powell never let Martin Lloyd get far away and finished off winning 19 to keep his 100% record in the Play Offs, while Michael Cooper from 5-0 down versus Andy Smith, ran out from 15-14 up. This meant Horsehay were now 15 ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woore needed a big card and Jan Wakefield raced 13-0 up on Richard Jones down an edge. But Craig Baugh went 16-3 up on Derek Wright for Horsehay, and Steve Reeves had gone 8-3 ahead of Andrew Davies. But Andrew got back to lead 18-13, and Derek was getting back at Craig, however Richard had got the block back and was clawing his way back on Jan. Steve though ran out on Andrew to win 18, and this left Horsehay needing one for the win. Garry Owen was the one who got the one they needed against Cedric Bancroft, but Cedric then won 17. Jan won 11, and Craig won 17, which meant that Horsehay had upset the odds and won by 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sometimes actions speak louder than words, hopefully that showing from us on Friday night shows just what it meant to us to be part of the Premier League!” said Horsehay spokesman Steve Reeves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We may have got into the league through a more unconventional route or back door as some might say, but after last nights performance it shows that we deserve to be there. We knew we were in for a tough game against the lads from Woore, who have a lot experience, and were given little to no chance of winning ahead of the game.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For us It was important to get a good start and keep things tight which after 4 games it was. The middle did a great job in securing the 4 wins which made the back 4s job a little easier knowing we just had to keep it close and with 3 games still on Gary secured the chalk we needed to get the win. From 1-12 we battled for every single chalk, the performance from everyone was superb. A special thanks goes to our supporters and the support from other club’s players for the atmosphere they created it was incredible and didn\u2019t go unnoticed at all. Safe to say we celebrated till the early hours!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big thanks To Rob & Martin from the league in doing such a good job, Bicton for their hospitality and Woore for a great game and best of luck to them next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to Horsehay on a terrific performance tonight to keep their Taylor Support Premier League status. Commiserations to Woore, I’m sure they will be back next season to try and gain entry into the league. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-Play Off<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woore beat Shifnal by 41 tonight to advance to the Play Off final on Friday 4th October against Horsehay at Bicton at 7 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a comfortable night for Woore after a good start in the first four, Gary Beff raced 18-0 up before winning 1, while Andy Moss also won 9. But Shifnal did hit back, Darrell Handley overcoming a slow start against Dan Hand to win 16, and Alison Cotton won 20 in a 34 end marathon. This meant Woore led by 26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They further extended their lead when Martin Lloyd from 9-8 up won 9 in the corners, and Steve Rogers from 14-12 down ran out. Tim Benton though did win 15 for Shifnal, running out from 15-14 down, and Dan Wilson got back to 19 against Andy Smith after being 18-12 down. But it meant that Woore led by 41 going into the back four. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once Derek Wright had come off winning 15 from being 9-8 down the game was won for Woore. But Paul Reeves won 17 for Shifnal and Rob Steventon won 11 from 16-2 up. Jan Wakefield though won 13 last on to give Woore the win by 41. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well done to Woore tonight and commiserations to Shifnal. They have had an excellent season though winning the Mid Shropshire League and Harris Shield. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woore go on to play Horsehay on Friday at Bicton at 7 p.m. The draw will be released at 10 p.m. later today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
