The first major competition of the season starts as the St Georges Open gets going today, and it starts off with some top quality bowlers! Former Champion of Champion Mike Beer of Castlefields is there, along with his team mates Andy Duckett, Adam Jones and Jon Palmer, the Autumn Waterloo holder. Tom Roden used to play at the club, so the Sir John Bayley bowler will hope that helps him, while Roy Bradburn of Bowring has a great record on the green. Wayne Rogers is a former big competition winner in the Meole Open, so knows how to win a competition of this calibre. Wrockwardine Wood pairing Dan and Steve Bodley also take part. There are plenty of big names from outside the county, including Andy Cairns, Dave McDermott, Ivan Smout, John Bailey, Jason Galvin, Dan Petcher and Conor and Paul Chamberlain, all players who have gone far in a major competition before.<\/p>\n
