Four of top five face off, Fields face Hanmer test<\/strong><\/p>\n

Four of the top five face each other in week 10 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Leaders Newport face a tough trip to Sir John Bayley, a place where rivals Castlefields won recently. Captain Sam Millward is planning on “getting as many as we can” but knows a win here will cement their position at the top of the table. The Bayley have bounced back well from that defeat, winning at Burway last week, and know a win will put them right back in the mix for the title. Hanwood in 5th host St Georges in 2nd knowing a good home win is needed to close the gap on the top four. Skipper Mark Shore says “St. Georges are an in form team and we do not take them lightly. This will be their third visit to Shrewsbury area this season and they have picked up useful points on the road. We will look to put in a big performance to keep us in touch of the leaders.” St Georges have been in excellent form so far and joint captain Tony Rhodes knows it is a “really tough fixture against a top side so all points a bonus.”<\/p>\n

Castlefields will look to take advantage of those two big games but face a tough trip to Hanmer, a place where they lost last season. They have plenty of players who know the green though, and a win will make sure they keep in touch with those teams around them at least. Hanmer though have improved this season after last year’s disappointment. Captain Dave Ellison says “I will take any kind of win. The key for us against the big boys is to make sure we get the aggregate and the extra two points. We know we’re not going to get 10 or 11 winners, we just need to try and win the match. That’s what we did against Hanwood. Even though we only had five winners we were able to scrape home by two or three chalks and take a 7-7 from it. Some of the Castlefields lads will know our green well but there’s probably about half that don’t. But they’re certainly a very good side.” The bottom four are all at home and know a big home win can move them away from trouble. Bottom placed Ifton host Bylet, with the home side having a game in hand at home meaning they’ve only played 2 out of 8 at home! Bylet have been good so far including a win at Chester Road. Chester Road are struggling and must win against a Burway side who are struggling themselves to get going so far this season, having lost their last three. Highley have started well in their maiden season, and have settled at home after that initial horror show in their opening game. Wrockwardine Wood may not know too much about their green, but have done alright so far this season, with an away draw at Meole Brace the highlight so far. Wem USC had been poor at home losing two matches there but their win against Castlefields there will give them a much needed boost in confidence. They host a Meole Brace side who have won 4 out of 5 and have their tails up with an away win up the road at Chester Road so far.<\/p>\n
