The holders Castlefields have reached another Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy by the narrowest of margins. They drew with Hanwood after both teams won by 14 at home with 4 winners, but won on the best away winner rule, the first time that has been implemented since it was introduced a number of years ago. Fields skipper Alan Peach says it was “a\u00a0real great match against an in form team. After 3 games results home and away we led by 6 with some great come backs. Keith Wall was 18-11 down and got 18, Keith Walton was heavily down but fought for 11. At home our final 3 finally kept it together with Mark Taylor and Martin Codd both being 6\/7 nil down but eventually finding some fighting spirit. Callum Wraight after racing 7-0 up on Rich Lawson lost his way with the length. Rich played exceptionally well to lead 20-19, but on the last end he played 2 short woods and Callum got out with a 2. Then its left to Adam Jones to get a good score away, so it ended up all square with the same amount of winners. A special mention for Kevin Walker (bird) who came in at the last minute and played away and won 21-11 which was the winning card for us. A great set of lads from Hanwood match was played in a great spirit.” Callum in fact fired Rich off for game which made all the difference in the end. Hanwood joint skipper Mark Shore congratulated Castlefields. “I said it would be a belter of a game and so it proved. After game tied on agg and winners everyone thought Hanwood had won by virtue of the best winner 9 but the rules stated best away winner which was an 11 for Castlefields. Congratulations to them on getting to the final in a great game decided by the smallest of margins.” That 9 winner for Hanwood at home was Glyn Wellings, while over at Fields, the best winner for the home side was Paul Williams 14 and for the away it was Mark Shore and Rob Carter 18.<\/p>\n
Over at St Georges the home side overcame an early deficit of 12 to win by 22 overall, with Rob Roden’s 6 card the best of their 4 winners. Jack Hill was best winner for the visitors 11.
