32 quality players take place tomorrow in the 2022 Meole Open looking for the title and first ticket to the 2022 BCGBA Champion of Champions at Heaton Park. Last year’s winner Callum Wraight of Castlefields starts as favourite as he takes on Glen Herbert. The player he beat in the final, St Georges’ Martin Gaut, our very own Secretary, is looking to go one better but he has a tough task in Glynn Storer first. Leighton Roberts from Ifton has one of the toughest tasks in Simon Coupe, with the winner of that playing Chris Ward from Sir John Bayley or Burway’s Wayne Rogers. Leighton’s team mate and brother Keiron, has fellow Welsh player Rob Pierce first game. Gary Neal from Hanwood kicks off the competition playing Gareth Herbert, while our Hall of Famer Rich Goddard from Castlefields takes on Adam Jones. Another Hall of Famer Pete Farmer, now back at St Georges, has former Highley player Darrell Handley first game, and new Newport signing Aaron King takes on Terry Brook. Previous BCGBA Junior Merit winner Andy Armstrong of Hanmer plays Tom Vickers, with his team mate Matt Beeston having a tough task against former Hanwood star and second favourite Greg Smith. There is an all Premier League clash between Paul Evans of Sir John Bayley and Chester Road’s Martin Lloyd, with Paul’s new Bayley team mate Clay Flattley taking on Owen Jackson and his fellow captain from last year Spencer Clarke playing former Castlefields player Tom Palmer. Alex Hassall has Daniel Nixon at the bottom of the draw, and Chris Barton against Gary Owen rounding off the 1st round games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
