Wrockites earn first away win, St Georges stun Champs, Hanwood beat Burway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrockwardine Wood earned the first away win of the 2022 Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they won 13-3 at Highley. Stand-in captain Rob Jones said “1-12 the team played exceptional. A decent start off the first two games and the team are playing well. Biggest headache is currently is fitting 16 into 12.” New signing Scott Moseley was best winner 7, with Dave Scriven and Dave East best winner for the home side 12. St Georges scored an impressive 11-3 home win over the Champions Sir John Bayley. Skipper Tony Rhodes was “so pleased with the result against the best team in the league. Close results don’t always go your way as at Meole Brace last week, but tonight they did. Proud of my team and great result.” Josh Bradburn was best winner 11 on his home debut, with Kane Beaman’s 15 win the best for the away side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanwood scored the biggest home win of the night 12-2 over Burway. Captain Mark Shore said the “simple headline to the game on Friday was how well Burway played and how the score line did not represent what they deserved. Duncan Pressley, without his own bowls, played exceptionally well and would be right to wonder how he didn\u2019t win from 18-12 up. Glyn Wellings dug in and played great to get out 20. Sam Downes came in for us and continued where he left off last year with a great performance. Rob Jones returned to Hanwood as an opponent and dug in deep to pull off a great win against Darren Wellings with some real close bowling. In the middle Ash Wellings and Gary Neal put in great performances to nullify Burway’s big two players while Rich Lawson and Wayne Phillips put in solid wins for us to take a clean sweep of the middle. Nick Lewis played well to take Burway’s second point in the back (best winner 12). Phil Talbot made a last minute appearance and showed his experience to get a solid win against Kev Dovey, Phil utilising his favourite mark to great effect. Russ Davies made a late comeback against Phil Lyttle only for Phil to snatch a win 20. Mark Shore wrapped things up with a 21-6 win (to be best winner). Given we were missing three players we were more than happy with the points haul especially given how well Burway played.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closest game of the night was between Wem USC and Castlefields, with the home side winning by 2 chalks with 5 winners. Captain Derek Wright and Colin Smith were best winners for them 7, and Mike Beer best for the away side 11. The other three games finished 9-5 to the home side. Ifton defeated Meole Brace with Leighton Roberts their best 7 with Will Childs’ 14 win best for the away side. Hanmer beat Bylet with Lee Peate best 7 and Simon Rhodes 11 best for the home and away side respectively. Newport overcame Chester Road as Simon Oldcorn was best for them 5 and Martin Lloyd best for the visitors 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
