Wrockites bounce back, Ifton earn away draw, Newport get important win<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrockwardine Wood bounced back spectacularly from their first league defeat of the season as they beat Meole Brace 13-1. Skipper Rob Jones says it was a “great bounce back from team on Wednesday against a good Meole Brace team following our defeat the week before, thought we were superb 1-12 both on and off the green.” Best winner was Stuart Rutter 3, with Will Tarrell Meole’s winner 16. Castlefields lost ground to the leaders as they only beat Burway 10-4. Callum Wraight led the way winning 7, with Wayne Rogers scoring a rare 21-0 away success for the visitors. Sir John Bayley picked up their form with a 11-3 home win over Chester Road with Alex Jones leading the way with his 6 win. Martin Lloyd continued his recent good form with a 13 win to be best for the Whitchurch side. St Georges lost ground at the top as they scrambled to a draw against Ifton with the games shared. Ifton captain Dickie Jones says “we shared the first four, Dave Bond playing his first game played well to win 16. We won all the middle but didn’t manage to win any in the back, but kept it tight to draw the aggregate for the extra two points.” Best winner for Ifton was Nick Hughes 8, while Pete Farmer was best for the Dragons 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newport scored an impressive 9-5 win over Hanwood to stop their losing run. Skipper Ayden Smith was “chuffed to pieces, a game we thoroughly deserved to win and a big win for us at home. Fingers crossed we are back on track. It was nice to see a first win for Joe Killen too.” Ayden himself was best winner 8, with Rich Lawson best for the Shrewsbury side 2. Highley scored their best win of the season 11-3 over Hanmer. Captain Stuart Gittings said it was a “great win and points total for us as the score line slightly flattered us as Hanmer were unlucky as they could have had 5-6 winners on another day. Good start to be 3-1 up after the first 4 with Sean Lockley just dipping out 19. Their middle 4 bowled it well but we managed to turn two 21-20s our way. Back four managed to close the game out with solid performances from Danny Statham and Highley\u2019s new number 12 Rob Burroughs. Have to say we enjoy playing Hanmer as they are a great set of lads. We hope the pub is back open when we go there as a planned sleep over and drinking session is anticipated.” Dave East was best winner 5, with Hanmer skipper Mike Gilpin best for them 3. Wem USC went one better in their best result of the season in defeating Bylet 12-2. Scott Thomas was best winner 4, while Sam Millward was best for the away side 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrockwardine Wood now lead by 9 to Castlefields, and a further 18 to Sir John Bayley. Chester Road now trail by 2 to Bylet at the bottom, who are a further 3 behind Newport. Jamie King leads the averages ahead of three other players on 8 wins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
