Dragons Fightback, Meole & Bayley win away<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Georges produced a great fightback to inflict only a second league defeat on Wrockwardine Wood in week 16 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. But Wrockites skipper Rob Jones said “in the big picture 5 at St. Georges is not a bad result, but to be honest we are disappointed with that from 4-1 up. But full credit to the Dragons they deserved their win and were the better side on the night.” Phil Jones was one of those who led the comeback with a best win of 6 for the home side, while Mark Jones was best for the leaders 9. They did only lose out by a point to 2nd placed Castlefields though, who got 6 winners at Ifton. Dave Peach was their best winner 7, with Ian Jones replying by the same number for the hosts. The game has most likely created two records, with 8 Joneses playing for either side, and Ifton only fielding 5 different surnames in their starting line-up. Sir John Bayley continued their good record at Newport with a 11-5 win there. Captain Chris Worthington says “we are just enjoying ourselves now as we know the league has gone, so we are just going out on Fridays and having a good time and a drink!” Steve Bodley was their best winner 6 while Joe Killen was best winner for the home side 9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meole Brace won by the same score at Bylet to dent their hopes of moving off bottom spot. Meole joint captain Mark Thomas said it was “a good performance from our team on the night. We were 3-1 down after the first four, with only Julian Cooke having a winning card. He was showing why the county are interested in playing him with a great result against John Newey. Our middle four levelled the score with 3 winners and Dave Redge just missed out 20. The back brought it home with 3 more winners and a strong 16 from Nick Davies.” Mark himself was best winner 9, with home captain Scott Harries their best 16. 2nd bottom Highley gained a point on Bylet as they got a good 6 at Wem USC. Skipper Stu Gittings said “we always enjoy Wem, it’s a good green with a nice bunch of bowlers. We got off to a good start 2-2 and 7 shots up with Andy James (best winner 10) and Dave East bowling well with our two other lads, who hadn\u2019t seen the green before, playing ok and got 17 and 13. Middle 4 went on and we were doing well in one game not so good in two and the other being tight. Jon Heath was a great game having never seen the green before and eventually won 21-20. Sean Lockley won 14 and Bruno Heath and Geoff Wylde lost single figures with Derek Wright bowling well (best winner 7) second half of his game so we were 4-4 and 11 shots down. Back four were a mix and match in terms of performance so it ended 6-6 and losing by around 19 shots which was respectable. We needed that after the drubbing on Wrockwardine. Onwards to a big push in the second half of the season and finishing out the bottom 3.” Hanmer earned another good home win 11-3 over Burway with Lee Peate best winner 5 and Rob Jones best for the Ludlow side 8. Hanwood won by the same score over Chester Road as Darren Wellings was best winner 6 and Chris Nicholson best for the visitors 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrockwardine Wood are 22 points ahead of Castlefields, who are a further 21 ahead of Sir John Bayley. Bylet are two behind Highley at the bottom, who are a further two behind Chester Road. Alex Jones is one ahead of Ash Wellings at the top of the Averages, with Mike Gilpin still leading on 9 consecutive wins, with Alex on a run of 8 now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
