They had a good start in the first four with captain Scott Harries racing 9-0 up over the middle against Phil Jones, Playoff veteran Tim Ealey leading 9-1 over Rich Lewis and Grant Cooper 9-3 up against Dave Bamford. However Tony Sherratt was leading against Rob Fuller 14-10 and Dave got back into his match against Grant. Tony was the first game off, winning 18, but Scott, after a fightback from Phil to get back to 18-10 down, won 10. Grant and Dave had a very close game to end with Grant just edging it 20. Tim was always up on Rich but Rich did pull back to 14, which meant Bylet led by 16 off four games off.

Into the middle four and Adderley started a fightback. Ed Proudlove was 14-4 up on John Newey in the corners, and Ian Atherton, with encouragement from some of the crowd, led 14-9. However Dan Davies was in control of his game against Tom Hardy for Bylet, leading 12-5. Gary Whitehall also had an early lead of 12-3 and it looked like Adderley would draw at least level. However John grounded out 14, and Sam came back well down an edge to lead 16-14 and win 17. Dan was 20-9 up but Tom managed to get back to 15, and with Gary winning 12, it meant Adderley were only 10 behind.

However Cheryl Caswell, the first ladies bowler to play in the playoff, led 13-3 over Alex Lockett, and maintained this to win 9, meaning Bylet were 22 up. The other games were still quite early on and fairly level until Jamie Taylor went 15-4 up on Jack Hazeldine, and when he scored another it meant Bylet were over the line. He finished off his game 8, while Chris Elsbury beat Gary Cooper 10 and Matt Ealey got home 19 versus Rich Pullen.

Well done to Bylet on retaining their status, and commiserations to Adderley. Well done to Cheryl Caswell for winning the Player of the Match award, the first woman in the league to win one of these in one of our finals, for her consistent display.

Thank you to Old Shrewsbury for hosting, Mike Potter for refereeing and to Louise Cotton for helping measure.

<figure
