The Fields are looking for their 10th win in this competition, the most by any club, while the Bayley just their 2nd, their first being all the way back in 2002! Last year’s final was a classic, which Castlefields managed to win by 18 shots. However, only 10 players remain from that final, with both teams having made numerous signings over the Winter. Castlefields though are short of three key players in Callum Wraight, Rich Goddard and Mike Beer from last year’s final, but have brought in four new signings as well as the returning Mark Taylor and Glyn Herbert, and Dave Peach, who was watching Liverpool in Paris in the Champions League final when last year’s final was on! The Bayley have also recruited well, and 2 of their new signings come in, while Tom Roden and Josh Hale return to their side. Paul and Owen Evans both missed last year’s final along with Spencer Clarke and come back into the side too. Both teams have been in excellent form so far this season, and a win in the final could give either momentum going into the second half of the season.

There are some mouth watering clashes down the line-ups. Tom Palmer of Castlefields meets Scott Simpson from the Bayley at number 1, while Gary Neal takes on Bayley captain Dave Lloyd at number 5. Two new signings meet as Hayden Lewis meets Stuart Rutter at number 6, while Fields captain Adie Rowe has Bayley youngster Ayden Smith at number 7. An all Warwick & Worcester clash could shape the back four as Jon Palmer meets Josh Hale. Number 12 sees the returning, and part of our league sponsors, Mark Taylor, take on up and coming Junior Owen Evans.

It promises to be a great game between two of the best teams in the league. The action starts at 6.30 p.m. with Tony Weaver the referee. There will be food available afterwards in the club. There will be a free 8 page programme available with player profiles.

There will be live scoring on the bowls results site and live coverage of the latter stages all being well on the SPBL Facebook page here.

No

Castlefields

Score

Score

Sir J Bayley

1

Tom Palmer

0

0

Scott Simpson

2

Dave Peach

0

0

Alex Jones

3

Glyn Herbert

0

0

Paul Evans

4

Wayne Rogers

0

0

Chris Worthington

5

Gary Neal

0

0

David Lloyd

6

Hayden Lewis

0

0

Stuart Rutter

7

Adrian Rowe

0

0

Ayden Smith

8

Andrew Judson

0

0

Spencer Clarke

9

Jon Palmer

0

0

Josh Hale

10

Russell Pugh

0

0

Kane Beaman

11

Adam Jones

0

0

Tom Roden

12

Mark Taylor

0

0

Owen Evans

Games

0

0

Games

Aggregate

0

0

Aggregate

The 26th Alan Mayhew Trophy Final takes place at Chester Road between last year’s finalists Castlefields and Sir John Bayley, the first time in the history of the competition that two teams have both made the final again in successive years.
