There is just one day to go until our 30th Anniversary Competition takes place to celebrate 30 years of the SPBL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our 14 member clubs take part along with former league members Newport and Hadley USC at the new greens of Allscott Heath. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The artificial green sees a Shrewsbury derby to kick things off with Meole Brace and Hanwood clashing. Hanwood’s team contain a Life Member, Hall of Famer and a former Chairman in Phil Talbot, Rich Lawson and Mark Shore respectively, while Meole have one of our Committee Members in Mark Thomas alongside Will Childs, Chris Jones and Doug Edwards. Sir John Bayley play Ifton on the same green, with two former League Merit winners and a twice Averages winner in their team; Tom Roden, Scott Simpson and Alex Jones. Ifton’s squad contain the current merit winner, Nicky Jones, while brother Ollie and father Nick take part as well as Owen Jackson. Later on the artificial green, Hanmer take on Bylet, with captains Ieuan Pugh and Cheryl Caswell leading their teams respectively. Iuean has the two Bennetts with him, Graham and Robin, while Cheryl, the only woman competitor in the competition, has Rob Fuller and John Newey alongside her. The other game on that green sees league newcomers Horsehay make their Premier League bow with a tough tie against 2022 Champions Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay have one of their new signings in their squad, Michael Cooper, who plays alongside Phil Wain, Gavin Bridge and Gareth Jones. Wrockwardine Wood have former Merit winner Liam Stevens, Averages winner Jamie King and County Merit winner Rob Roden in their ranks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The grass green has St Georges open up against Adderley, with 25th Anniversary Winner Keith Wall looking to add this to that triumph. He plays alongside League Secretary Martin Gaut and multiple Merit and League Averages winner Pete Farmer. Adderley’s team contains former Play Off man of the match winner Ian Howell, Jamie Brookes and Phil Jones. Hadley USC return to our league with former players Phil King and Nick Mullinder competing alongside former White Horse player Paul Powell. Castlefields have the two Palmers, Jon and Tom, and former Averages Winners Wayne Rogers and Mike Beer. Newport also return to league action where they won the league 5 times in a row. Our former County President and Hall of Famer Mick Jones returns to league action, alongside the captain of those 5 wins, Dale Rudrum, and Phil Emery. Highley contain new signing Simon Rhodes, as well as captain Stu Gittings and Danny Statham and Averages winner Rob Burroughs. The last tie sees Burway meet Wem USC, with Burway led by captain Adam Dovey along Bylet Open winner Ben Allen and County Merit winner Kiah Roberts, while Wem’s team is Gareth Davies, Ian Metcalfe and Colin Smith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first two games on each green start at 10, with both singles and doubles happening at the same time. The last two games will then follow once both games are off from one of the earlier matches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allscott are providing bacon rolls between 10 and 1, with cold rolls provided also. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be a bowls type football card that will be a \u00a31 a go for a \u00a330 first prize. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three Hall of Famers and one life member will be inducted around 3\/3.30 before the Semi Finals or Final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
