Horsehay get five, Bayley win at Bylet, Meole earn super six<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horsehay earned a great five winners on their first ever trip to Hanmer in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Spokesman Steve Reeves says “Horsehay made the trip to Hanmer looking for the same again in terms of performance. Many of our squad have never seen the green before so we knew we were really in for a challenge, that coupled with the weather would probably make the task even harder. We really didn’t get off to the best of starts with 2 single figure losers, but we kept persevering and dug in to get 5 winners to make sure we got valuable points on the board.” Best winner for them was John Roberts Jnr 8, with Mike Gilpin best winner for the hosts 2. They gained a point on the Bylet who got 4 winners at home to Sir John Bayley, who keep their unbeaten start going. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “we’re really pleased with the result. It’s another important away win, and we’ve battled well to grind out a couple of wins from bleak positions. It could have been a much closer match. Good luck to the Bylet for the rest\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0season.” Scott Harries and Owen Evans were best winners 7 for them with Matt Ealey best winner for the Bylet 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castlefields, Wrockwardine Wood and St Georges all kept up with the Bayley with good home wins for each. The Fields beat Ifton 10-4, Gary Neal best winner 6 with Owen Jackson continuing his good form winning 9 for the Miners. The Wrockites defeated Adderley 11-3 as Greg Smith and Scott Moseley were best winners 6 and Ade Jennings best for the Adders 17. St Georges won by the same scoreline against Wem USC with captain Josh Bradburn leading the way with a 21-8 victory and Colin Smith replying for Wem 13. Meole Brace will be happy with their 6 winners at Highley. Skipper Nick Davies says “we travelled to Highley with some trepidation on the back of a 12-2 drubbing there last year and a narrow home defeat to Wrockwardine Wood the week before. That trepidation seemed well founded after the first four with their lads bowling the green extremely well. Phil Lyttle was our only winner, living up to his nickname by \u2018grinding\u2019 out a close victory. However, as the rain got heavier and the pace of the green changed, our bowlers adapted to the conditions better with two winners in the middle and three at the back – just losing the aggregate by nine chalks. As captain I was once again very pleased with our away performance and look forward to hosting our local rivals Hanwood next week.” Best winner for Meole was Will Tyler 13, while Phil Chester was best for Highley 10. Hanwood against Burway was called off after four games because of a flooded green with Hanwood leading 4-0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir John Bayley lead by 4 to Castlefields who are another point ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Hanwood are three points behind Horsehay with that game in hand. Wem USC and Bylet are another point ahead. Callum Wraight still leads 5 others on 5 wins in the League Averages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
