Bayley miss out on history, Wrockwardine create records, Bylet earn super six, Meole bounce back, Hanwood shock Fields<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir John Bayley missed out on history in week 14 as they came close to the first 16 point haul in the history of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won 15-1 at Wem USC, matching their own record points total at Highley in 2019, but now possibly hold the record of highest aggregate away win, winning by 92, beating the record of 83 by Chester Road in 2008. Vice-captain Tom Roden says “it goes without saying that the result was beyond our expectations. Having lost at Wem last season, and struggling there in the Alan Mayhew earlier this season, any aggregate win was the target. To only drop one chalk was phenomenal considering 4 or 5 of the lads have battled back well from losing positions late in the game to get a win. It’s a shame our captain wasn’t there to witness it, he can watch us on Friday\u00a0I\u00a0suppose.” Scott Harries was best winner 4, with Darren Fitzpatrick the winner for Wem USC 20. Wrockwardine Wood created a record too with the biggest aggregate win of 148, beating their own record in 2011 when they won by 138, however this was helped by three walkovers. Horsehay have possibly scored the lowest aggregate in a game of 104, beating Wem USC’s 110 in 2013. Skipper Rob Jones says “to only concede two points over the home and away leg is beyond impressive. Wouldn\u2019t single any individuals out but huge team performance. To win 14 zip at home and actually drop a point (to the bayley) is both a little crazy and impressive, but all we can do is keep on looking after what\u00a0we\u00a0can\u00a0control.” Best winner was Scott Moseley 21-2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castlefields slipped up at Hanwood as they lost 10-4 to continue the hosts good run of form. Home skipper Simon Lane says “as expected it was a bit of a dog fight with some high quality bowling. We managed to get over the line in 3 or 4 of the tight games thanks to some great support from the side and some superb bowls under pressure. Good luck to Castlefields in trying to claw back the top spot.” Best winner was Mark Shore 21-8 with Tom Palmer best for the Fields 9. Bylet earned a super six at Highley to move six points clear at the bottom. Captain Cheryl Caswell says “I think we thoroughly deserved six points, we managed to win a couple of close games that could have easily gone the other way but pleased with the way we dug in especially with the disappointment of recent results. We wish our friends from Highley all the best for the rest of the season.” Best winner for Highley was Dave Scriven 3, and for Bylet it was Lee Bevin on his debut 10. Adderley put some distance between them and the bottom two with an impressive win over Ifton. Skipper Gary Whitehall says it was “a good home performance all round last night against a very good but not full strength Ifton side. Some useful points for us to move us a little closer to the pack above.” Meole Brace bounced back from just 3 winners at Burway Friday by beating the same team 12-2. Skipper Nick Davies says “it was a great home win against Burway which bettered the result they had against us a few days before in Ludlow. We went 3-1 up off the front and never looked back with just one more defeat in the match.” Best winner for them was Chris Jones 4, and for Burway was Paul Williams 5. St Georges returned the 10-4 scoreline against Hanmer, who won by that score at their place last week. Best winner was Keith Wall 7, with Hanmer’s being Matt Beeston 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bayley are 10 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood, who are another 14 points clear of Castlefields. Horsehay are now 6 behind Bylet and another 19 off Adderley. Callum Wraight still leads the Averages on 13 wins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
