Three teams from outside the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League aim to upset one of our teams in the 1st round of the Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy, with all of them making their debuts. Woore, who lost out in the Play Off final last year, make the long trip to Highley. Captain Gary Beff “Woore are looking forward to our first ever game in the Mayhew Trophy (despite the travelling!). We expect it to be tight game across the two venues and hopefully the Highley lads will enjoy their trip up North (but not\u00a0too\u00a0much!).” Highley have been beaten by Castlefields the last two seasons so will be looking for their first win in this competition since 2019. Shifnal, the team who Woore beat in the Pre-Play Off, make a long trip themselves to Burway. Skipper Paul Beer says “we are looking forward to taking on a well established Premier league club and getting good preparation early on to take on Mid Shropshire to hopefully retain our title. Should be a good game in a good competitive spirit.” Burway will be looking to reach their first final in 10 years. Prince of Wales Hotel got the late call up and have the toughest challenge against 2023 winners Sir John Bayley. Captain Danny Wornell admits that “obviously we’re a massive underdog in this game and some of our players won’t of had a competitive game yet this season. All we can do is try and keep it tight and hope for a miracle.” The Bayley will be looking for their fourth straight final, the same for Castlefields, but they both can’t make it this year as they are in the same half. The Fields have Horsehay who will be looking for their first win in this competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A much different St Georges side travel to Adderley, the latter hoping to take their Pool B form into this competition. Hanwood won this competition in 2017, and play Ifton, who won this in 2009, both teams being the highest ranked in the top half. Meole Brace, winners in 2016, are in the top half too, and take on Hanmer, semi finalists in 2023. Wem USC were the first winners of this competition back in 1996, and play Wrockwardine Wood, who have never won this competition in their 30 seasons in the league. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
