The Coors Meole Open sees just one former winner in the field as 30 other bowlers look to claim the prize for the first time. Andy Hughes won this in 2015 and 2023, and lost in two other finals, as he looks to become the only the second player to win this three times behind Callum Wraight, and has Mark Ferris first game. Greg Smith starts as favourite to win this for the first time, but has the only over 60 in the field Kerry Morris, who knows how to win these big competitions. Leighton Roberts is second favourite and has Dave Worthington first round, who qualified here in 2023, while his Welsh team mate Nick Jones plays surprise local qualifier Anthony Gray. Lee Brown against Scott Harries promises to be a great encounter, Lee having reached the Semi Finals here two years ago. Martin Gaut is the only quarter finalist from last season that is in the field again, and has former Wrockwardine Wood team mate Stuart Rutter first game. Stuart’s new team mate Joe Dicken plays his former team mate Sam Millward with both players in good form pre-season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two former Meole players in the field, Will Tarrell, who has a tough opener against former All England winner Darren Plenderleith, and Will Childs who plays Carl Fielding, a previous Warwick and Worcester Merit winner. Josh Mordue has won big competitions up north and plays Darren Fitzpatrick who qualifies for his first big competition. Two Welsh players clash as Gareth P Hughes meets Jimmy Hynes, while another Welsh player Andy Armstrong takes on Matt Farmer from Derbyshire. Danny Barwise is a former finalist in this, and plays local Castlefields player Andrew Judson, while Dan Petcher, an Edgmond Semi Finalist today, takes on another Castlefields bowler Gary Neal. Tom Killen is one of just 7 that remained from last season’s competition finals, and plays Nathan Dawes. Tom Vickers has had to withdraw due to testing positive for COVID so Gerwyn Davies receives a bye. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition starts at 11.30 with practice at 11. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BCGBA Dress Code applies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Burger van will be in operation again from 10.30, with Meole also supplying cakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numbers 1-8 below is on the number 1 green, with Numbers 9-16 on the number 2 green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players then swap for the next round, before the final 8 on the no.2 green by the car park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
