Top Three all win big, Bylet shock Hanwood, Horsehay’s first win, Highley & Burway with super seven<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top three seem to be in a league of their own after all won big in week 8 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. League leaders Sir John Bayley made it 8 wins out of 8, and a joint record 14 straight wins in the league, tying with St Georges in 2001 and Chester Road in 2005, by winning at Audlem Special Events Trophy winners Ifton 12-4. Joint captain Scott Simpson says “it was a brilliant performance from our boys. We knew it would be a tough task to get anything out of the game but we managed to come away with a very good W against a very good Ifton side. Brilliant set of lads too.” Best winner for them was Owen Evans 8, with Nick Jones best for Ifton 10. Wrockwardine Wood went one better and won 13-3 at Meole Brace. Skipper Liam Stevens says it was a “great performance last night, probably a couple above par from what we were expecting, though another expensive one with Greg Smith’s third single figure win in a row (to be best winner 4). We benefited a lot from grinding out some tough games, Tom Killen, Josh Cotton and Scott Moseley all battled through whilst not at the top of their games. I was pleased with the energy on the side which I feel helped get a couple over the line. Stand out performance was Sam Millward. 15-5 down and played superb to run out, though he’s unfortunately been forbidden from doing this again. Very happy with season so far and it feels like we are improving. Keeping pace with the two favourites, aim remains to stay\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0mix!” Best winner for Meole was Julian Cooke 13. Castlefields went one better again with a 14-2 win at Hanmer, their second scoreline of the season. Vice-captain Jon Palmer commented on “another superb performance on a very slick Hanmer green. First four battled well in the toughest of conditions and the back 8 took advantage of the kinder conditions with young Rhys Marshall being the stand out of\u00a0them (being best winner 7).” The home side’s best was Lee Peate 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bylet shocked Hanwood with their first ever win there in a 10-6 success by one chalk. Skipper Cheryl Caswell admits “of course it was a great result for us and I think we deserved it. We stuck to the task whole heartedly from 1-12 and never gave up even when the heavy rain came with the last couple on the green and we looked like dipping out. I thought Hanwood was immaculate and for the front four in particular, almost unplayable in parts due to the pace but credit to Hanwood, who were very gracious in defeat.” John Newey and Tim Ealey were best winners 11 for them, while Shaun Bould was best for Hanwood 9. Horsehay earned their first win of the season with a 11-3 win over Wem USC, bringing them back into the mix. Vice-captain Craig Baugh was “really happy with the performance from everyone last night both on and off the green. Winning all of the front was massively important for us to use as a platform to build the rest of the match on. It’s a result we desperately needed and hopefully we can build on last night for the rest of the season.” Best winner for them was Gareth Jones 8, while Sarah Weaver was best for Wem 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highley and Burway both earned 7 winners away from home at St Georges and Adderley respectively, but missed out on the aggregate. Highley captain Simon Rhodes says “the Highley boys turned in a very solid away performance again at St Georges on what was a tricky pace. It was a shame that we couldn\u2019t quite get over the line, but very happy with the result. A special mention to new signing Sam Mantom who turned out a very impressive performance against Matt Rhodes on his Premiership debut. I hope that the team keep buzzing and playing well together as they have so\u00a0far\u00a0this\u00a0season.” Best winner for the Dragons was Chris Ward 1, with Dave East and John Heath best for the visitors 11. Burway got 7 winners at Adderley to keep up their good record on that green. Skipper Adam Dovey said it was \u201canother really good performance from the lads on Friday on a really tricky green, being 3-1 down in the front and plenty of shots down it wasn\u2019t looking good. So to get 7 games and then being slightly disappointed we couldn\u2019t win the shots as well, shows how well everyone thought.\u201d Best winner for them was Kev Dovey 4, with Chris Stretch the best for the home side 0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir John Bayley are 3 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood, who are another 2 ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are 3 behind Wem USC, and another 7 adrift of Hanmer. Owen Jackson still leads 4 others on 8 wins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
