Fields edge out rivals, Hanmer get vital win, Wem win w<\/strong>ell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castelfields edged out their main rivals Sir John Bayley 10-4 to move clear at the top of the Taylor Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 19. In a game that ebbed and flowed it which saw the Fields go 6-2 up it then looked like the Bayley were going to win the game 10-6 and go favourites for the league. But some inspired bowls from Josh Hale and Rich Goddard meant they managed to get over the line by 3 chalks and go favourites for the league title themselves. Wayne Rogers was best winner 13 for them and Spencer Clarke 8 for the Bayley. Wrockwardine Wood pushed Ifton close with 6 winners as they firmed up their grip on 3rd place. Skipper Liam Stevens was “Pleased with the result. Green was hard all over with green and brown – and it was tight all the way through. Steve Faulkner made the most of his weekly trip out of the care home to register a brilliant win 21-6 early on (to be best winner). Robin Bennett excellent for Ifton against Sam (to be their best winner 10). Ultimately two very evenly matched sides who didn’t give much away to each other. Good luck to Ifton for the rest\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0year.”

Hanmer got a vital home win as they beat Burway 10-4. Joint captain Dave Ellison said it was “an excellent team performance on Friday night which if there was any pressure on us near the bottom of the table is now totally gone now. Chris Probert was outstanding against Kiah (to be best winner 4) and the same goes to Ian Formstone who also beat a top bowler Richard Lane to single figures. Ant Harper loves a close game and got over the line 20 for us to seal a good win against a good side.” Best winner for the away side was Harry Parsonage 7. It was a more important win for Hanmer given that bottom placed Horsehay lost 11-5 at home to Highley. Rich Simmonds 21-10 was their best winner and Sean Lockley was best for the visitors 6. It wasn’t enough for Highley to move into 5th though, as Hanwood leapfrogged them into 5th with a 13-1 home win over St Georges. Mark Shore was best winner 9 and Matt Rhodes the winner for the Dragons 18. Wem USC kept up their good form with a 11-3 win over Bylet. Spokesman Tim Jordan says it was an “excellent result against a slightly weakened Bylet team. Daz Fitzpatfick made it a 4-0 lead fighting back from 13-2 down to win 19. Sarah Weaver was superb in the middle 4, which saw us take a 7-1 lead. Bylet’s back 4 played well to take a couple of games, Matt Ealey and Rob Renke both playing some great bowls (Matt best winner 10). Good moral boost ahead of a couple\u00a0of\u00a0tough\u00a0games.” Ian Metcalfe was their best winner 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castlefields are now 10 points ahead of Sir John Bayley, and another 20 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are 15 behind Hanmer and another 11 adrift of Bylet. Scott Simpson is now two wins ahead of Jon Palmer and Owen Jackson on 18 wins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
