The 2026 Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League starts tomorrow night for its 31st season and it promises to be another exciting 6 months ahead. Holders Castlefields had a record breaking season last year but given they\u2019ve lost three players they know they will be hard pressed to match that again. However the signing of Jamie King could be a massive late coup for them. Sir John Bayley will be looking to capitalise and have a similar squad as last year with Nick Wyer replacing Ayden Smith. Both teams have a limited squad this year though and who deals with that best could be the one who clinches the title. Wrockwardine Wood have strengthened despite the loss of Jamie, with Chris Grocott coming back and Joe Killen making the switch from neighbours St Georges and Matt Ealey coming up from Bylet, meaning they have one of the best squads in the league. Ifton haven\u2019t signed anyone but Leighton Roberts returning full time is like a new signing, and they will be pushing for a top three finish. Below these four it could be anyone\u2019s who finishes 5th. Hanwood have changed captains and made some new signings, while Burway have the same squad again and will look to replicate last year\u2019s best season they\u2019ve had in the league. Highley finished in the top half last year and again have a similar squad so will be looking to push on again. Woore are the league\u2019s unknown team but many are tipping them for a top half finish given their experience and good home green. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the bottom and Bylet thankfully have managed to stay in the league thanks to the efforts of captain Cheryl Caswell but they will be hard pressed to avoid bottom spot. Adderley have lost players, but the return of Gary Whitehall as captain will be a big boost in terms of getting players in. Hanmer struggled last year but should have a more settled squad this year, while the teams above will be looking more towards a top half finish than below them. Wem USC have assembled a good young squad added to with Connor Whitehall and Phil Jones as well as Craig Dugdale having moved to the county from Warwick & Worcester. Meole Brace have their best squad for years and will be looking for a return for a top half finish, while St Georges will look to try and improve on last season when they were consolidating, the return of Tony Rhodes and Ian Gaut playing more games will be a massive boost for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
