Only Neil Boxall stemmed the Meole tide beating previously unbeaten Doug Edwards 20 to get a point for Wem, who were unlucky not to get more with 3 19 losers as well as 2 18s. Best winner for Meole was Darren Wellings 8 whilst Andy Wigginton won the MVP award winning 9. Meole gained a point on St Georges who beat Bylet 12-2. Bylet won games at number 1 and 12, with Tim Ealey winning 18 at 1 earning the MVP award whilst Rob Steventon won 17 at number 12. John Coxill also went close getting 20. St Georges had four single figure winners, Mike Wainwright being the best winner again winning 4, whilst Dave King and Jim Kellett won 5, the former winning MVP too, and Tony Rhodes 6. But St Georges gained another point on Newport who beat Hadley USC 11-3. They bettered St Georges by having 5 single figure winners, Pete Grimston 3, Scott Harries 7, Mick Jones 8 and Dave Rhodes and Kev Keary 9. But Hadley will be happy with their three winners, Dave Price running out from 19-12 down, Kris Lewis also winning 19 and Rob Burroughs 8, earning the MVP award too. Jamie King earned the MVP award, against his former club, by winning 15 in the best game of the night with John Price.

The most eye catching result of the night was Wrockwardine Wood’s 8-6 win at Ifton, following up last week’s superb win over the Champions. There was only 2 in it after eight but wins for Phil Clee 10 and Andy Marshall 11 sealed the aggregate for the Wrockites, the former being the best winner and the latter being MVP. Away skipper Stuart Clee was again delighted with the results, emphasising the team performance. “Again, what a team performance. We are exactly that, a team. We do not have any individuals, everyone works on and off the green for each other. Really pleased with the away win and it could have been even more with the close cards we had. There was some real good bowling and superb games from Strutter, Andy Marshall and Phil Clee. This team will grow throughout the year and to see the team spirit and togetherness we are showing is brilliant. I am confident that as a team we have yet more to give and can only improve further.” Brian Hayes was the best winner for Ifton winning 13, and Kevin Nicholas won MVP for winning 20 over Andy Jones.

Sir John Bayley gained an excellent 11-3 win over Castlefields, “despite a shaky start” reports home captain Tom Roden. 3 of their first four 4 won 18, Staffs stars Paul Evans, Chris Ward and Scott Simpson, the latter having to find another gear from 11-0 down against a very impressive Russell Pugh. The middle four was shared with Jamie Fletcher impressing and winning again, whilst Duckett won 11 and the MVP award for the visitors. Andy Judson played the green well at the back to give Castlefields their third point, whilst Tom himself had to come back from 13-2 down to run out from 15-8 down against Callum Wraight to gain an excellent result for the Bayley boys.

Burway earned yet another great home win against the Bowring. Home skipper Duncan Pressley was “very happy with the good home performance but it could have gone either way in the front four. Mark Rogers ran out from 18-12 down to earn the MVP award, whilst Steve Rogers also did the same. Middle four was shared with Rich Lawson as consistent as ever winning to 10 for the visitors. We put in a strong performance at the back taking all four games. Rob Roden was MVP for them putting in a great performance against Roy Crowther.” Duncan himself was best winner, running out from 7-5 down.

In the Whitchurch Derby Chester Road will be very happy with their 12-2 win against Archibald Worthington. Carl Hinton was the best winning 6 and MVP for the hosts, with further single figure wins for the still unbeaten Mark Burdon and Paul Latham. Winners for Archie were Ian MacDonald 8, earning MVP too, and Alan Ball 16.

Meole Brace are now top by three points from St Georges, with Newport a further 6 behind. The Bayley have moved up to 4th now, with only 10 points separating 5th from 12th. No change at the bottom with Bylet two points clear of Archibald Worthington, but Archie have a game in hand still against Ifton, being played on Thursday 4th June.

In the League Averages, four players remain unbeaten with Dave King leading Rich Lawson, Rob Burroughs and Colin Beaman on aggregate. 5 players have earned 3 MVP awards, Mark Rogers of Burway, Paul Williams of Castlefields, Rob Roden of Bowring, Andy Jones of Wrockwardine Wood and Rob Burroughs of Hadley USC.

Top three net good wins, Wrockites continue good form, Bayley building steam The top three all earned good home wins tonight with Meole Brace leading the way with another 13-1 win over Wem USC who were 4th in the table.
