Meole edge out Chester Road, Newport move second<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meole Brace edged out Chester Road last night by just 7 chalks to take the two aggregate points with their 5 winners in Week 9 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League. Glyn Wellings’ 21-3 win over Chris Nicholson sealed the aggregate points for Meole in a game where 8 games were 18 or above. Home captain Martin Lloyd explains “it was a really topsy turvy front four with us having 3 cards well up, KP Jones 17-7 on Ade Rowe and Mark Holland 18-9 on Darren Wellings, and the other struggling. Then all of a sudden two of the games well up were pegged back so we could have easily been 3-1 down but they both managed to win, KP 20 and Mark 19. Then the player who was struggling came back so we were then 4-0 up. The match was full of close games and was a great advert for the Premier League.” Away skipper Mark Thomas was full of praise for Ade’s and Darren’s comebacks for winning them the aggregate, and Glyn’s 21-3 win. He also complemented Andy Moss’ win over Colin Beaman as being “a great match.”<\/p>\n

Newport moved up to 2nd place in the league with a 13-1 win over Wem USC. Only Chris Brettell stemmed the tide beating Sam Millward 13 to be\u00a0Wem’s only winner. Dave Rhodes was the best winner and MVP for the champions winning 6. St Georges have the same points as Newport in 2nd as they beat local rivals Wrockwardine Wood 9-5. The visitors will be happier with the points though, especially after losing the whole of the first four, and away captain Stuart Clee “praised the hosts for their first four performance which could have ended up in a heavy defeat for us. But we rallied really well with good performances from Steve Roberts (best winner and MVP winning 8), whilst Ryan Stevens (coming back from a 2 year absence) wasn’t phased playing at number 12 beating Simon Rhodes 12, and applied himself well on and off the green. We are happy with the 5 points from the position we were in.” Best winner for the hosts was Alan Palin winning 9 whilst Mike Wainwright was MVP winning 12.<\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley continued their resurgence with a 11-3 home win over Archibald Worthington which included two notable performances. Norman Harvey played his 500th Premier game for the club, and marked it by winning 21-7, whilst at the other end of the scale Paul Yapp marked his Premier debut with a 21-19 win, earning himself MVP. Spencer Clarke was the best winner though winning 1. Ian MacDonald was the best winner for Archie winning 8 while John Digby earned himself MVP by winning 9. Castlefields also continued their resurgence with a fine 5 at Burway. Andrew Judson was best winner for the visitors winning 14, whilst Adam Jones won MVP for winning 15. Russ Davies was best winner for Burway winning 5 whilst Len Lewis won 12 for their MVP award.<\/p>\n

Ifton scored a big 12-2 win over Hadley USC with four single figure winners. Dickie Jones was the best winner winning 4, whilst his son Nicky won the MVP award for winning 9. Leighton Roberts 8 and Brian Hayes 7 were the other single figure winners. Steve Homer was best winner for the visitors winning 9 whilst Rob Burroughs was MVP winning 12. Bowring also won 12-2 against bottom placed Bylet. Brian Jarvis was best winner and MVP for the hosts winning 5. For Bylet Paul Lill was the best winner winning 18 and Chris Chamberlain took the MVP for winning 19.<\/p>\n

Meole Brace now lead Newport and St Georges by 7 points at the top, with the Bayley a further 4 behind. At the bottom Archibald Worthington are now a point ahead of Bylet, with their game in hand this Thursday now away at Ifton as the game had to be reversed due to Archibald Worthington’s green being unavailable.<\/p>\n

Rich Lawson is still 100% and leads the League Averages whilst Rob Burroughs has now gone to the top of the MVP awards, being the only one on 4.<\/p>\n
