Ifton topple league leaders, Archie stay off bottom<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newport were the happier team at the top of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League table after both of their rivals failed to take advantage of their week off. Leaders Meole lost 11-3 at Ifton whilst St Georges only beat Archibald Worthington 9-5, the visitors best result there for a few years. Ifton captain Dickie Jones was very happy with their performance “in a high quality match played in great spirit. Our first four played very well, but (Meole’s) Pete Bound and Craig Wilson both played well enough to win their games on any other night. Our middle were superb so we have now set a standard that I would like to see to the end of the season.” Richard Zolman led the way for the home side winning 21-1 and the MVP award, whilst Nigel Bound was best winner and MVP for the league leaders 13. Archibald Worthington captain John Digby was “very pleased” with their 5, “even the players that didn’t win played well and gave it their all. Rob Adams was brilliant coming back from what looked like a losing position, Jack Hewitt was superb (being best winner and MVP 13) and Dave Ridgway and John Paddington carried on their fine form with great performances of their own.” John was the other winner for Archie, whilst Mike Wainwright 21-6 was best winner for the home side with Nige Evans MVP winning 7.<\/p>\n

Bowring got a great home win in their Telford Derby against Wrockwardine Wood, winning 11-3. Home skipper Rich Lawson was “delighted with the result, even if the scoreline was a little harsh on Wrockwardine as they played the green very well. Most of the close games went our way, with most of our games won from players coming back from behind; George Williams 19-15, Glyn Hayward 18-13, Jack France 10-1, myself 16-10 and Dave Lloyd 20-14. So to convert those games into wins made all the difference meaning 2 good results in a row, so I’m hoping we can carry this form onto Wem next week.” The returning Steve Parton was best winner for the Bowring winning 5, with the other single figure winner, Josh Bradburn, having come back from an injury from football winning 7 and MVP. There was two single figure winners for the visitors, Stuart Rutter 3, which earned him MVP, and captain Stuart Clee 7.<\/p>\n

Burway continued their great home form winning 11-3 at home to Hadley USC. Kiah Roberts 21-5 was best winner and MVP with Mark Rogers producing the bowl of the night when beating a foot wood led by Phil King in the corners at 20 across. Rob Burroughs was MVP and best winner for Hadley USC winning 15, who were happy with 3 winners from 7-0 down. Bylet and Castlefields shared the games, but it was Castlefields who got the two aggregate points in a game where there were 7 single figure cards. The home side had Chris Chamberlain winning 8 and Rob Steventon and Brian Walters both winning 9, but it was Nick Powner winning 14 who got their MVP. Castlefields had Callum Wraight winning 5, Paul Williams 6 earning\u00a0MVP and Clay Flattley and Andy Duckett winning 8 to help win the aggregate.<\/p>\n

So Meole Brace extend their lead to 7 points from St Georges with Newport a point behind, albeit with a game in hand. Ifton and Burway are now 4th and 5th to show their impressive start to the season. Archibald Worthington will be happy to stay\u00a0a point above the Bylet at the foot of the table.<\/p>\n

Rich Lawson continued his unbeaten start, whilst Rob Burroughs earned another MVP to move to 5, to keep ahead of Paul Williams and Stuart Rutter on 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
