We are the halfway stage of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League season, well for most clubs as some have only played 12 games, so we look at how the season has gone so far for each of their 14 member teams and what the rest of the season holds.<\/p>\n
Archibald Worthington<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 14th<\/p>\n Points: 57<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -9<\/p>\n Leading Player: Dave Ridgway 8 wins<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Anthony Heath & Ian McDonald 2<\/p>\n Season so far: Archie’s season has been up and down, from the highs of beating current leaders Meole Brace to losing at home to 13th placed Bylet. Apart from that home defeat their home form has been good. The away form hasn’t been too bad, the high being 5 winners at St Georges.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Archie have 8 home games out of the 13 left and will be looking for their home form to get them off bottom spot.<\/p>\n Bowring<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 11th<\/p>\n Points: 79<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: 16<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Rich Lawson 12<\/p>\n Most MVPs:\u00a0Robert Roden 3<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Bowring are the most improved team this season and this has been helped by their captain Rich Lawson being unbeaten. Their home form has been up and down from beating Champions Newport 10-4 at home to losing against St Georges 8-6 but they have picked up again with a 12-2 and 11-3 home win sandwiching a great 6 at Castlefields.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects:\u00a0With 8 out of 14 at home their home form will be key to stay as the most improved team this season. Much will depend on skipper Rich Lawson and Merit Winner Rob Roden leading the way like they have this season so far.<\/p>\n Burway<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 5th<\/p>\n Points: 97<\/p>\n Difference from 2014:\u00a05<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Wayne Rogers 10<\/p>\n Most MVPs:\u00a0Mark Rogers 3<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Burway have been excellent at home so far this season, averaging over 10 points a home game. Their away form has picked up since their 1 at St Georges and the two points deducted with 20 points from their last three away games. They also proved in the Alan Mayhew Final that they are a team who can compete with the very best.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: A tough away run, with three straight away games in August, means a lot will depend on their away form if they are to keep up their top half position. How they react to their agonising one shot loss in the Alan Mayhew Final could also be important.<\/p>\n Bylet<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 13th<\/p>\n Points:\u00a060<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: 1<\/p>\n Leading Player: Rob Steventon 9<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Rob Steventon 3<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Bylet have just improved on last year’s score and after a poor start have picked up with their notable win away at Archibald Worthington their high point. The signing of Rob Steventon has been inspired with him leading their averages and MVP awards.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Their home form will be crucial with winnable home games coming up. Much could depend on their home game with Archibald Worthington in September.<\/p>\n Castlefields<\/strong><\/p>\n Position:\u00a08th<\/p>\n Points: 89<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -12<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Clay Flattley 9<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Paul Williams 4<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Castlefields have had a disappointing start to the season after being tipped to do well being in a lowly 8th spot. Disappointing home results against Hadley USC and Bowring and away at Ifton and Sir John Bayley have contributed to such a low standing.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Much will depend on how much of a settled side they can keep, they have used 21 players so far this season. This is a side packed with ability so they can easily climb back up the table and show their potential.<\/p>\n Chester Road<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 7th<\/p>\n Points: 90<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -1<\/p>\n Leading Player: Andy Moss 11<\/p>\n Most MVPs:\u00a0Mark Burdon\u00a03<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Chester Road have had a successful half to the season, with some good home results despite three home losses and their away form has been pretty good too, only scoring less than 4 once so far. Mark Burdon has been a great signing and Gary Beff has made a good start in his debut season too.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: A tough away run to come will test them, but will be happy if they can continue their current form home and away and maybe sneak into the top 6. Will be looking not to lose at home again this season.<\/p>\n Hadley USC<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 12th<\/p>\n Points: 70<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -12<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Rob Burroughs 10<\/p>\n Most MVPs:\u00a0Rob Burroughs 5<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Hadley USC have been disappointing this season being 12 points worse off than last season, not helped by home losses to St Georges and Sir John Bayley. Some good away results especially at Castlefields has helped their poor home form. Rob Burroughs has been in great form winning 5 MVPs and 10 games so far this season.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Much will depend on how their inflicted break of three Friday games will affect them. A run of 3 away games could slide them towards the bottom two but good results in those and in a run of three home games could push the up the table. They will be hoping that other players can step up their form and help them move up the table.<\/p>\n Ifton<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 4th<\/p>\n Points: 100<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: 12<\/p>\n Leading Player: Nicky Jones 11<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Leighton Roberts 3<\/p>\n Season so far: Ifton have had an excellent season so far being 12 points better off than last season, despite a shock home defeat to Wrockwardine Wood. Good home results against Meole Brace and Castlefields have helped as well as good away hauls at Bowring, St Georges and Sir John Bayley.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects:\u00a08 away games in the second half will test their resolve. But with new Welsh Merit Champion Leighton Roberts in their side, they will fancy keeping up their form and nicking a top half spot.<\/p>\n Meole Brace<\/strong><\/p>\n Position:\u00a01st<\/p>\n Points: 113<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -3<\/p>\n Leading Player: Colin Beaman 9<\/p>\n Most MVPs:\u00a0Craig Wilson 3<\/p>\n Season so far: Been a great season so far sitting at the top of the league, this despite being 3 points worse off than last season. But they have had their share of poor results, 3 at Ifton and 4 at Archibald Worthington included so may feel they have missed their chance to be have more points than they do. But have improved their home form with 2 13-1 home wins<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: A tough away run-in will mean they could do with a healthy lead at the top of the table going into them. Will be looking for good home returns from their remaining home games to ease the pressure away.<\/p>\n Newport<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 2nd<\/p>\n Points: 112<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -3<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Pete Farmer 11<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Alan Davidson, Dave Rhodes, Mark Selley & Scott Harries 2<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0A poor away start has improved along with their great home form has meant they are only a point behind the leaders with a game in hand.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects:\u00a0With 8 out of the 14 away it might not be plain sailing for the defending Champions but with 3 of them against the bottom three and the visit of leaders Meole Brace it might be key for a 5th successive title.<\/p>\n St Georges<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 3rd<\/p>\n Points: 104<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: 5<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Dave King 11<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Mike Wainwright & Nige Evans 3<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0St Georges started the season superbly with an away win at Hadley USC and 6 at Sir John Bayley along with good home wins. Their form slightly tailed off with only 1 at Newport and 9-5 at home to Archibald Worthington but a solid 11-3 win over Wem USC last game has moved them back into the top three.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: A tough home run against teams above and around them will test them there, but a lot will depend on their away form with three consecutive games away in August. They will want to maintain their 1st half form and stay in that top three spot.<\/p>\n Sir John Bayley<\/strong><\/p>\n Position:\u00a06th<\/p>\n Points: 105<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -10<\/p>\n Leading Player: Spencer Clarke 9<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Norman Harvey & Spencer Clarke 2<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Sir John Bayley have been another team that have failed to live up to pre-season expectations. They had a poor start to the season, but have picked up recently in winning 5 consecutive games and good away hauls at Wem USC and Meole Brace. Chris Ward and Gordon Hawkins have been great signings too.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Keeping a settled side is key to the Bayley moving their way up the table. A run of 4 away games in 5 will test them and could be key in setting them up to push their way up the table and improve on last year’s points total.<\/p>\n Wem USC<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 9th<\/p>\n Points: 80<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: -2<\/p>\n Leading Player:\u00a0Derek Wright 8<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Chris Brettell 4<\/p>\n Season so far:\u00a0Despite the loss of three players to Castlefields, including their top player from 2014, Wem USC have shown they have not missed in virtually maintaining their form from last season. They’ve maintained their unbeaten home record from last season has helped them despite only scoring 1 at Newport and Meole Brace.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: Maintaining their unbeaten home record will be their aim along with improving on their away form.<\/p>\n Wrockwardine Wood<\/strong><\/p>\n Position: 10th<\/p>\n Points: 75<\/p>\n Difference from 2014: 9<\/p>\n Leading Player: Andrew Jones 9<\/p>\n Most MVPs: Andrew Jones & Stuart Rutter 4<\/p>\n Season so far: Wrockwardine Wood hit form in the middle of the season starting with a 10-4 home win over the Champions and a shock 8-6 win at Ifton, but this tailed off slightly with only beating Burway 8-6 at home and disappointing away defeats at Bowring and Bylet, although the latter with key players missing.<\/p>\n Rest of the Season Prospects: With 8 out of 14 at home their home form will be crucial but with this being much improved from the previous season will fancy their chances of staying unbeaten and improving their points total from last year.<\/p>\n Stats from the season so far:<\/strong><\/p>\n 2015 Leading Player\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Richard Lawson<\/strong> (Bowring) is leading the way with 12 <\/strong>wins (Agg +102). There are 5 players with 11 wins, with Andy Moss (Chester Road) (+105), Dave King (St Georges) (+94), Peter Farmer (Newport) (+69), Glyn Picknell (St Georges) (+66) and Nicky Jones (Ifton) (+55).<\/p>\n Most Consecutive Wins<\/strong><\/p>\n Richard Lawson <\/strong>has won all 12<\/strong> matches so far this season<\/p>\n Most Valuable Player<\/strong><\/p>\n Rob Burroughs<\/strong> (Hadley USC) has been selected as MVP 5<\/strong> times this season. There are five players on 4; Paul Williams (Castlefields), Chris Brettell & Stuart Bailey (Wem USC) and Andrew Jones & Stuart Rutter (Wrockwardine Wood).<\/p>\n Most Improved Team<\/strong><\/p>\n Bowring <\/strong>are the most improved team with 16 points more than this time last season. In second is Ifton with 12 more points and third is Wrockwardine Wood with 9.<\/p>\n Premiership Trophy<\/strong><\/p>\n The Premiership Trophy will continue as an 8 a side competition and, whilst the two pools remain, this year will again see a free draw and the two finals will be played on Friday October 9th<\/sup><\/strong> at Sir John Bayley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Alan Mayhew Trophy<\/strong><\/p>\n Newport<\/strong> retained the Alan Mayhew trophy when they beat Burway<\/strong> by 1 chalk in the final played at Pontesbury.
