Top two both win away, bottom two win at home<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a good week 21 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League for the top two and bottom two as they both produced good results. At the top Newport produced a good result away at Hadley USC 10-4. The first four was key for the game as all the games were high quality affairs which Newport managed to edge 3 of them. They then took control of the middle with Jamie King returning with a 21-10 win and Mark Selley winning 13, this despite a best win for the host’s Adrian Smith 11,\u00a0before they sealed\u00a0the aggregate at the back with Russ Pegram’s best win to 7. John Potter took MVP for beating league averages leader Peter Farmer 15, after being 9-0 down. Meole kept up pace with the Champions though with a stunning 9-5 win at Wem USC, their first loss at home for 2 years. Despite Colin Smith continuing his good form with a best win of 6 for the hosts and Derek Wright winning MVP 14, the visitors took the shots by 9 chalks with Adrian Rowe best winner 9 and Pete Bound getting MVP for winning 10.<\/p>\n

At the bottom Archibald Worthington extended the gap over the Bylet by 2 as they beat neighbours Chester Road 11-3. New home captain Dave Gourlay was proud of his lads “as from the first minute to the last they were brilliant. The first four got us off to a great start and the rest of the team just followed, our class followed all the way through! If we carry on like this then I’m sure we will be just fine!” Ian MacDonald was the star beating former Archie man Andy Moss 9 to win MVP, with John Digby best winner 7. For the visitors captain Martin Lloyd was best winner 15 and K P Jones was MVP winning 18. Bylet had a good win too though beating St Georges 9-5, by just 3 shots. It was captain Mick Harries who was best winner winning 11 to help seal the shots as Rich Taylor got MVP for winning 17. For the visitors former Bylet man Andy James was best winner 10 along with Nige Evans, with Jason Wilson taking MVP for beating his Shifnal team mate Rob Steventon 14.<\/p>\n

St Georges remain 3rd, but only by a single point as Wrockwardine Wood closed in on them after a fine 11-3 win over Ifton, pleasing captain Stuart Clee. “It was another good home win for the lads. 1-12 the lads are performing more often than not and that’s nice to see going into a really important stage of the season. We have a tough task on our hands to maintain our position because we are surrounded by a number of good teams and the league is very tight but at the same time, with the team spirit we have shown this year I think a very respectable position is achievable for us. We have done well to be in the mix at this stage of the season and I am very pleased so far although there is a lot of work still to be done.” Best winner for the home side was Martin Williams 3, who took MVP too. For the away side Jeff Cooper was best winner 12 with Leighton Roberts winning 13 for MVP. Keiron Roberts was the other winner 18. Sir John Bayley are one point behind Wrockwardine in 5th as they got a good 5 winners at Castlefields. This was despite being 4-0 down, with Glyn Herbert leading the way winning 2 and Luke Jones getting MVP winning 9. But the Bayley took four winners in the middle, led by Paul Evans’ MVP 13 before the hosts took 3 out of the back four to win 9-5, despite a best win for the visitors’ Paul Reeves 12.<\/p>\n

The closest game of the night was at Bowring, where the hosts edged out Burway by one chalk despite taking 8 of the 12 games, to the relief of home captain Rich Lawson. ” Another really good home performance from us, it was a match that could’ve gone either way, we were always slightly behind and the only time we were in front was when Dave Lloyd came off at the end. We managed to win most of the close games mine included against an excellent Josh Partridge (who got 20 and won MVP) and I’m pleased with the way we fought back tonight and never gave up. Jack France was outstanding against Wayne Rogers (to earn MVP) and Glyn Hayward was not far behind against Jolyon Partridge (being best winner 10).” Best winner for Burway was Ben Allen 4.<\/p>\n

At the top the gap is now 15 points between Newport and Meole Brace, with St Georges a further 16 behind in 3rd. At the bottom 3 points separate Bylet and Archibald Worthington.<\/p>\n

It has tightened up in the League Averages now after Peter Farmer lost last night. Glyn Picknell now leads the averages, despite being on holiday, with 5 players all one win behind the pair. There was no change at the top of the MVPs list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
