Bylet pull of escape, Meole scramble second, Wrockites lose out<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a night of high drama in the last night of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League with Bylet avoiding the dreaded playoff by beating Hadley USC 12-2 with Archibald Worthington finishing bottom of the table by 3 points with a 12-2 loss at Burway. Bylet, despite a rocky start being only 2-2 after the front four, never dropped another game as their middle four, led by Tim Ealey’s 21-7, blew Hadley away, and with a 18, 19 and 20 going their way in the back, it added up to a great night for the Islanders. The MVPs were awarded to the Nick Powner vs. Rob Burroughs game which Rob edged 20. This earned him the most MVP awards with 9 and turned out to be pivotal in the League Averages. Archibald Worthington struggled at Burway with their only two winners getting close, after Burway completely swapped their order about. Rob Adams 17 and Greg Fordham 18, the latter MVP, were their winners, with Kiah Roberts best winner 2 and Russell Davies getting MVP winning 13.<\/p>\n

Meole Brace ended up in 2nd place thanks to their captain Mark Thomas who won last on 21-20 to get 4 points at Sir John Bayley and earn 2nd thanks to games won. Andy Wigginton was best winner and MVP 10 for Meole, with Spencer Clarke best winner and MVP for the home side 6. Ifton’s 10-4 win at Chester Road did seal 3rd spot for them, their highest points total and finish in their history in the league, and sealed Chester Road’s worst. Craig Griffiths was best winner 11, with Geraint Williams MVP for winning 18. For the home side, Carl Hinton was MVP and best winner 10. Castlefields finished behind Sir John Bayley in 5th place, thanks to a 12-2 win over Wrockwardine Wood who moved down to 7th as a result. Luke Jones led the way with a 7 win, with Rich Goddard getting an 8 win for his MVP. For the visitors captain Stuart Clee led by example winning 9 and MVP, with Stuart Rutter the other winner 15. This helped St Georges seal 6th place as they beat champions Newport 10-4. Glyn Picknell led the way with a 21-6 win with Nige Evans getting MVP for his 18 win. Phil Emery was best winner for the away side with Pete Farmer gaining MVP for winning 17.<\/p>\n

Over at Bowring the most significant result was Gavin Tommy’s MVP 14 win over League Averages leader Rich Lawson, which allowed Rob Burroughs of Hadley USC to win them by just 4 chalks from St Georges’ Glyn Picknell. Bowring though did win 9-5 which sealed 8th spot for them. Best winner was Aaron King 4, which won him MVP too. Best winner for Wem USC was Neil Boxall.<\/p>\n

So at the end of an eventful season, Newport won the league by 18 points from Meole Brace and Ifton, the former earning 2nd courtesy on games won. Sir John Bayley finished 4th, Castlefields 5th and St Georges 6th. At the bottom Archibald Worthington finished bottom, 3 points adrift of Bylet and might be ruing those points deductions earlier in the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
