It was another high quality performance by Callum, who started off his day by beating Donnington Wood captain Chris Worthington 21-2 and then Hanwood’s Phil Lyttle 0 over the middle on the Premier green, before edging out former Craven Arms and Meole Brace player Nicky Beard 21-20 after striking the block off at 20-19 down. He dispensed of team mate Andy Duckett 11 and then Ludlow Castle’s Richard Lane 10, who had enjoyed an impressive run, giving Clay Flattley, also of Castlefields, no room in the Quarter Finals winning 4. Newport’s Sam Millward and Pete Farmer also reached the last 8, but both ran into players at the top of their game, Chris Brown in the corners and Greg Smith on a 19m round peg, who then both played out a close game in the semis which Greg edged 19.<\/p>\n
Another Premier League Player won a competition this weekend, Castlefields’ Elliott McGuinness, who won another competition a few weeks before, kept up his streak by beating Wrockwardine Wood’s Stuart Rutter 21-19 in the final of the Ray Leath Memorial on Willenhall Nordley. \u00a0Stuart edged out Darren Plenderleith 19 in the Semis with Elliott beating D Evans from Richmond 10. In the first two rounds Stuart had comfortably beat Marc Wilson and Ben Harris 10 and 11 respectively, while Elliott eased past Phil Cookson 10 and then Bayley’s Chris Ward 14. Chris’ team mate Gordon Hawkins was beaten 17 second game by D Evans.<\/p>\n
Next weekend sees the Wrockwardine Wood Open start with Morning and Afternoon sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, and there are 10 current Premier League players who are in the last 32 of the Lea Hall Open Floodlit, starting at 1.30 p.m. Andy Judson of Castlefields is first on, taking on former Castlefields and Sir John Bayley player Craig Barker. Then Justin Pegram of Hadley USC takes on Stewart Meddings, and later in that quarter Elliott plays good mate Ben Harris. Bayley’s Scott Simpson takes on Mark Street\u00a0and Bylet’s Rob Steventon, having enjoyed a superb debut season, plays John Evans. League Averages Winner Rob Burroughs is first game on of the second half, playing the Greville’s Andy Nuttall, with Greg just below playing Ash Bracken. Bayley’s Chris Ward plays former Wrockwardine Wood player Ant Aldridge in an eye clashing tie, but this doesn’t compare to defending champion Glyn Picknell’s clash.
