Bayley and Newport look to end hoodoos, 3 ex-Wrockites return home\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are some excellent match-ups in week 4 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League. St Georges aim to bounce back from their County Cup defeat to Newport when they entertain Sir John Bayley. This is the one green the Bayley have never won on and will be hard pressed to end that hoodoo. Captain Spencer Clarke knows “St Georges are a good side and have started very well, along with Ifton, so we face another stiff test at a venue we historically don\u2019t have a great record at. I once again have strong availability so a similar side to last week although Gordon Hawkins returns with Aaron Tapper the only player unavailable. The lads are feeling positive and our aim will be to try and pick up 4 or 5 points but we know this will be difficult as they have both a number of quality players and have an excellent home green with plenty of scope, so we will just see how it goes.” St Georges didn’t play last week against former table toppers Ifton so will be looking to build on their 2 opening 10-4 wins and gain some momentum again. Newport are another team that are travelling to a “bogey” green in Wem USC, where apart from three seasons that they won on it, have struggled greatly on it, including just 2 last year, their worst result of the season. Wem though are the only team not to win a game after an opening home game defeat against Hadley USC 8-6, but captain Mike Dulson says “its seems a long time since we last had a home game after consecutive away fixtures in the league. The priority is to try and get a home win to get our season up and running.”<\/p>\n

The most competitive game tomorrow night maybe will be at Wrockwardine Wood, who entertain Bowring. Bowring signed 3 Wrockwardine players over the Winter, Andy Jones, Liam Stevens and last year’s captain Stuart Clee. Current Wrockwardine captain Tom Langford knows “this crunch game will always be anticipated as being a tasty match due to them having 3 players off us. Bowring have started well but we feel our home form is strong and we can push on further this season. We will always welcome the lads back and I’m sure there will be some banter around the green to make it a great night.” Fellow captain Rich Lawson knows “it will certainly be a stern test going to Wrockwardine, they are usually strong on their own green with players who bowl it well, we will have to be at the top of our game to force a result. I know we have a few ex players in our team and maybe people think that will give us the edge. I’m certainly hoping that but we will just have to see what happens on the night. We’re playing well as a team right now and we’re going to give it our all, whatever happens. I’m sure it will be a great game played in a cracking atmosphere.”<\/p>\n

Two teams tipped to be at the bottom of the league this season meet at Bylet, where Hadley USC are visitors. Hadley sprung a surprise first game winning at Wem USC but suffered two home losses since then and captain Rob Burroughs knows they have to bounce back. “We played exceptionally well at Wem and we need to do that again at the Bylet in order to get a good result to take home. We’ve had two tough games at home the last two where the weather has taken the advantage off us, so hoping that maybe a bit of rain can help rather than hinder us tomorrow. But Bylet are bowling well having beaten the Bowring and got a great 6 at Burway so know we will have to dig deep to get a good result, but I know the lads are more than capable of doing this!” Bylet have happy memories of this fixture last season, having won 12-2 last game of the season to avoid bottom spot and the playoff and will be hoping for a similar result to build on that 6 from last week.\u00a0Hanwood hope to continue their good run after beating Meole Brace in the County Cup as they host Burway. Burway did very well their last year in the Alan Mayhew only losing by a few and are hoping their green knowledge will put them in good stead. Castlefields have also started well and will be looking for a similar 13-1 result from last year against Chester Road to build on their 5 at Newport last week, while Chester Road will be hoping to build on their first win of the season last week.<\/p>\n
