There is one game in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League and one in the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy tonight. In the league last season’s top two play their game rearranged from the 1st game of the season, used as a concession for the Champions Newport. They play at home against Meole Brace in a game sure to have a decent atmosphere given their rivalry over the years. Meole Brace need 4 points to go back top of the league after topping it last week after their 10-4 win against Ifton last Thursday. Newport, despite losing many players over the Winter, have started alright, with a 9-5 win over Castlefields in their first home game along with 5 winners at Hanwood and 7 at Wem USC. They know that a 12-2 win will also put them top of the league! The two teams will also meet next Wednesday in the 1st round of the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy.<\/p>\n
In the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy former winners St Georges take on newcomers Hanwood. Some\u00a0of Hanwood’s players played on St Georges on Monday night in the Wem League and will be hoping that green knowledge will help them. St Georges captain Tony Rhodes knows “they will be a stiff test as they said on Monday that Wayne Phillips and Greg Smith will feature. We are playing well though apart from just not getting going against Newport last Wednesday in the County Cup so we’ll see.” Hanwood joint captain Mark Shore also knows “it will be a hard game to call as both teams have big advantages at home and the result will be dictated by how the away teams adapt to the conditions. After last weeks cup victory against Meole Brace our tails are up so we could run the dragons close.
