St Georges look to move clear, Bayley aim to bounce back, Bowring face tough Burway trip<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Georges look to move clear at the top of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 9 as the team directly below then, Meole Brace, sit out due to Wem USC using their concession, with that game now being played on Wednesday 8th June. St Georges though have a derby game against Wrockwardine Wood, but face a team reeling from a shock 9-5 home defeat against Bylet last week. St Georges captain Tony Rhodes knows a “local derby means points can be dropped due to local knowledge. We have to approach the game as we have done with others recently and be ruthless.” Wrockwardine got a good 5 last season but will be looking for a response from last week while St Georges are looking to use their momentum to extend their lead at the top. Ifton are another team looking for a response after a few disappointing results. But they face a team with probably the best record on their green, Chester Road. Chester Road have only failed to score 5 or more once in the history of the league, and got a good 6 there last season, so it could be a close game.<\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley will be looking to bounce back from last week when they scored 2 at the Bowring as they take on Champions Newport at home. But Captain Spencer Clarke was “impressed last week with the Bowring and we\u00a0were soundly beaten however we need to try and bounce back against Newport to remain in the mix. Our home form has been solid so far but this represents a stern test against a classy Newport outfit who are very dangerous, despite losing a couple of players. It promises to be an intriguing encounter, especially as we meet again in just over two weeks in the Cup, however tomorrow\u2019s objective is to grind out a good home result.” Newport have suffered heavy defeats on their last two away games but have a decent record at the Bayley, scoring at least 4 every season since 2008 and winning there a couple of times. But skipper Mark Selley tipped the Bayley to win the league at the start of the season as “they are a good quality team with county bowlers either side of the border. Very tough game but we will go there trying to get as many points as possible.”<\/p>\n

Bowring will look to build on that great result against the Bayley last week but travel to Burway, a team who has picked up the last two weeks after beating Newport 11-3 and getting 6 at Chester Road. Captain Rich Lawson knows “it will be another hard game against a good Burway side, they have plenty of players who can do some damage on their own green. We go there buoyed by last week’s result and if we show the same application then hopefully we should do ok, you always set a target of coming away with 4 winners so that’s what we’ll aim for first, anything more than that and I’ll be very pleased.” Burway will be looking to keep their momentum going and bang in some good home results like last year to move up the table. Bylet had an excellent win last week after bouncing back from their home defeat against St Georges and will be looking to put that right again when they host Hanwood. It will be the first time some of the Hanwood lads have seen the green for a long while so Bylet hoping they can take advantage of this. Hanwood need to bounce back themselves after their narrow defeat last week against rivals Meole Brace, but have scored 4 and 5 on their last two trips so are hoping their good away form continues. Bottom placed Hadley USC will be hoping to move off there but they face a tough task in Castlefields. However they did beat them 11-3 last season but know that they face a much improved Castlefields side. The Fields are still yet to really get going yet and will be hoping their first away win will kick start their season.<\/p>\n
