Hanwood stun St Georges, Chester Road earn good win over Meole, Newport returning to old form<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a week of mainly big home wins in week 10 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Hanwood hammered top side St Georges who struggled to cope with the quickness of the green. Joint captain Mark Shore commented on “another great home performance for the lads last night on a very quick home green. St Georges played excellent in the first four taking the first two games with quality performances from Mike Wainwright and a top display from MVP Dave King (winning 12 and being best winner). But Wayne Phillips and MVP Russ Wellings (winning 14) put in two great displays to level the game with St Georges edging the aggregate by 1. In the middle Ben Talbot continued his fine start to his Premier League career with a superb display on the Talbot Mark to win 21-4 (to be best winner) and Ash Wellings was equally impressive to win 8. Arguably the best game of the night was between Glyn Picknell and Dave Burton with Glyn leading well Dave battled back to snatch a great win. The returning Mark Shore put in a solid and assured display in the battle of the captains to beat Tony Rhodes 21-10. The final three games saw close games for Nick Davies and Dan Wornell but they both turned it on and used their green knowledge to run out winners against Paul Beer and Simon Madeley. This left Mark Parsons on the green trailing Simon Rhodes 14-8 but tracker battled well to get back to 20-19 and lead game on only for Simon to bowl a great draw to make it 20 across. A scrappy last end resulted in Simon’s good second bowl take a third win for the dragons. Great game with a good atmosphere between both teams. On the road now for the eggs with two tricky ties at Wrockwardine and Wem.”<\/p>\n

Chester Road produced a great home performance in beating Meole Brace 11-3. Andy Moss led the way winning 6 with Carl Hinton getting MVP for winning 16. For the visitors Colin Beaman won 9 with Doug Edwards winning 10 and MVP. Chester Road captain Paul Fowles said “we played very well as we are starting to get to grips with our green which is getting good. I think the score was a fair reflection of how the game went and hope we can build on it.” Newport matched this score in beating Ifton 11-3 at home. Wayne Lawrence and Dale Rudrum both won 9 to be best winner with Mick Jones winning MVP with his 13 win. For the visitors Leighton Roberts won 6 to be best winner and MVP. Captain Mark Selley commented on a “very good team performance it helped going 4-0 up in the first four then 2 all in the middle and just one loser at the back.”\u00a0Bowring had the biggest win of the night beating Hadley USC 13-1. Dave Lloyd led the way winning 1 playing very well on this one mark to have a 20 break at the start of the match, but Andy Jones got MVP for a high quality match with Jim Fletcher, with Andy winning 18. Phil King was Hadley’s only winner 20, earning him MVP.<\/p>\n

The other two games were closer affairs, Sir John Bayley getting 5 at Burway and Wrockwardine Wood getting the same score at Castlefields. But the Bayley will be reflecting on being 3-1 up after Alex Jones had led Kiah Roberts 20-0 before winning 7 to be best winner and MVP for the away side. But Burway hit back with Wayne Rogers leading the way running out from 9 across to be MVP and best winner. Bayley captain Spencer Clarke was still “pleased with the 5 points, albeit being 3-1 up and plus 18 we thought an away win might be on the cards. Burway responded very well to take all cards in the middle and effectively secure the aggregate. A special mention to Alex Jones who was immaculate against Kiah, who himself played much better than the scoreline suggested. Next up, Chester Road.” Wrockwardine Wood also had a good start, taking 2 out of the first four with Steve Roberts being best winner 9 but Mark Jones got MVP for winning 15 in the middle. For the home side Rich Goddard won 7 to get MVP.<\/p>\n

St Georges still lead the table but by just 2 points to the Bowring, with a gap of 6 points to Ifton in 3rd. Meole Brace have a chance to move up the table on Wednesday when they entertain Wem USC, a 14-0 win would put them top. Hadley USC have fell to the bottom again, 3 behind Wrockwardine Wood.<\/p>\n

Aaron King still has a perfect record of 10 out of 10, while Colin Smith now has 4 MVPs, 1 behind Stuart Rutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
